1SG says one thing, your commander another. What do you do?

1sg calls for all NCOs to be at the barracks at 2000 for a GI PARTY. Later that day the Company commander says only soldiers that live in the barracks and their NCOs need to be there. As an NCO with no single soldiers and no responsibility to the barracks do you listen to the last thing you heard from 1sg or from the Commander?

I would listen to the 1SG because he is closer to touching you. Those two need to get their crap together. I find it strange that the commander is involved. He should stay out of NCO business.

He has already started micro managing. All the micro managers I have worked for have been ruthless, because nothing is good enough, boss wants to meet suddenly at the end of the day for updates. Good luck with him!

MAJ Ken Landgren I would even build on that by saying that all the micromanagers I have worked under have enjoyed less than stellar success because of it. Essentially, they end up working many times as hard as they have to for sub-par results, and then blame every manager around them except for themselves after effectively cutting them out of the management process.

Team, let's not jump to a conclusion based on something that is said with no context.
I happen to agree that everything is leader business... However having managed a few barracks in my time I was fortunate to have COs that trusted me and my COs never involved themselves until either the Bn or BDe Commander was coming through.
There is also the possibility that the CO has been burned before... We have seen that before many a times... At least I have... And over coming that obstacle is challenging! Even under the best of circumstances!

Which is more restrictive? Does not having solider in the barracks (need) prevent you from going?
Bottom line: Commander did not say that NCOs without soldiers in the barracks WILL NOT attend. 1SG said all NCOs WILL attend. Go with the WILL attend. worst case scenario is that you will be sent home for not having to be there. Worst case if you don't? Well I will just say, I wouldn't want to be on the butt chewing...
