I was looking through AR 623-3 and noticed an evaluation form called a DA Form 1059-1 Civilian Academic Evaluation Report. It says it's completed for college, but I've never heard of it or seen one done. Would you recommend I have one done after my Bachelor Degree is completed in a few months or would my transcript suffice? Also, have you ever seen or had one done and can you provide examples?

That is not how that works. DA Form 1059-1 used for RA Soldiers participating in
(1) formally approved part-time degree completion program
(2) when degree completion program is their primary duty or
(3) voluntary participation by RA, USAR serving in active status or ARNG serving in title 10 or 32 USC Soldiers attending night courses at civilian institution.

You will usually see this with AMEDD or special programs. I work at a BOLC that generates DA 1059s. Just because you go to a civilian school doesn't mean you get one. It is for active servicing Soldiers while there are in school due to them not being rated in a primary MOS. A med student can't get an OER or an NCOER. They get the AER to cover their periods of service.

Roger Sir. I was confused because I've already completed one degree and I've never heard of it.

I received multiple AERs using this form. Just as you indicated, I was on AD and I was attending college as my duty assignment. This form replaced the OER for those years whenever I was in school (through the AMEDD).

Would those attending college via the Green to Gold program also receive an AER?

MSG (Join to see) - I don't believe so. If I am not mistaken they go into a reserve status while in school for that time period. When they commission all of their NCOERs will void out and they will get their first AER from BOLC and their first OER from their unit. It would be the same for those in ROTC programs.

Honestly, I've never seen an AER used. Never received one. Nothing on this question I could add. But after reading the response from CPT Rosa, I'll know for next time.

Thank you my friend CPT (Join to see) for posting an intriguing question. As is often the issue with government programs - plain reading of a issue is not equivalent to understanding the true meaning of a description.
Our friend CPT (Join to see) explained what DA Form 1059-1 is actually used for.
Have any of our medical friends benefitted from the DA Form 1059-1 accrediation or other military service version
