There were dangers in searching for Bergdahl? Really? Who would have thought looking for someone in a country where people are trying to kill that it would be dangerous!

SSG Warren Swan I'd seen the earlier articles as well, but it's hard to argue with the quote in this one.

I'm merely relaying the information as reported. Making no judgement on this case until it is concluded.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS - SCPO David Lockwood, I'm not picking an argument with either of you. Believe me. I read that and I couldn't believe what I was reading. I was in the Stan not too far away from where this clown deserted, and we had to do a FULL personal accountability HANDS ON while being on lockdown. This "man" has done more harm than just a simple desertion. He's made me question decisions made by others in looking for him, and in trading to get him back. The hallmark of any branch of service is "we never leave anyone behind". The night he left, over the radio we heard some of the bs like his whole kit still being on his cot. As a leader, I'd have my men go after him. He's a Soldier...still. Moving forward, the mantra of never leaving anyone behind still rings true to me, but we gave up five clowns for one. Did we do the right thing. Yes. Did that mantra hurt us? Ask the families of those six Soldiers. Would I as a leader do it for Bergdhal if I was in charge and it happened over? I hate to say it because I hate him, but yes I would. I cannot and will not leave a fallen comrade.

SSG Warren Swan I never thought you were.

I hold pretty much the same stance as you. We fix the problem in front of us. We sort it out after, because "what if we were wrong." I think back to the story they tell every Marine when we go to 29 palms of LCpl Rother. I'm not saying that's what happened here... but bad decisions happen, and people cover things up... and it takes a long damn time for the dust to settle.

I am glad these Officers had the personal courage to be honest, and glad the people get to hear this....too many tree hugging pacifist out there, worried the political pressure of undue command influence would rear its ugly head!

PV2 Bergdahl (I refuse to recognize his promotion to SGT and think he should be reduced to E1) is a traitor and a coward.

PO1 John Miller He is SGT Bergdahl until after the Court Martial. I think the system works pretty well for the most part and will let it take it's course.

I agree in sentiment what you're saying, but MAJ Fred Nace is correct. He has the rank he "earned" cough...cough until the Courts Martial is complete. At which time I hope that the ONLY title he can use ahead of his name is Inmate.

Technically you are correct. However I served honorably for 20 years and have earned my right to express my opinion.
