Can I live with my wife during AIT if I reclass to 17C?

In most cases soldiers who attend an AIT of longer than 20 weeks, dependents will often be added to orders. This means that the Army will pay for the family to move to the AIT location. After a certain time period, the soldier may be allowed to live with his family if he chooses. This generally occurs after making it through the first phase of AIT.

Honestly, you probably won't get selected for 17C with your current experience level. I'm not saying it can't happen, just that I've never seen 17C accept an applicant with your level of experience.

If you do get selected, you will PCS with your family to the school. IET Soldiers aren't authorized family members, but you are not IET - so ignore anyone who says spouses weren't allowed in their class. On post housing might be limited so make sure you save enough money for that first and last months rent plus deposit.

You would be attending AIT as a MOS-T Soldier, not as an IET Soldier. Which makes a WORLD of difference for you. You should be living at home with your family - unless you screw up.

MOS-T Soldiers still have to complete all training, but they are usually given the respect and courtesy of acknowledging their experience within the Army and not treating them like basic trainees. Especially within the longer (PCS worthy) AITs.

Don’t know about these days, but when I changed my MOS 1978 as an E6, to Ft Gordon GA for 32F school, I was allowed to bring family. We lived off base. The school was over a year long. Most schools lasting over 6 months are usually considered a PCS if married. Hope it helps.
