I have a pretty 'complicated' medical case but the VA continues to refuse at times to even consult with me despite internal VA referrals for the consults. They also refuse to refer me to anyone who possibly CAN help-- or the Mission Act options don't have any providers for the care needed within hours of me. Then they refuse to cover many of the meds that outside specialists suggest, costing me >$3,000 per year out-of-pocket. Is this OK at any level and would anyone have any suggestions for how to get the needed care? This way preceeded COVID-19 issues but continues despite it. I've been told the doctors won't even agree to a telehealth or video health consult at the VA across a few departments and programs. I'd already involved a senator's office a few years back and have made almost no progress. Help, please?

Why don't you try your congressman first. They don't appreciate getting blindsided from above

Go to your CONGRESSMAN not your Senator. Your Congressman represents YOU. Your Senator represents your state as a whole. Keep up the fight, you may have to engage the services of a disability lawyer WITH EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH THE VA.

SSgt.Markland,
The phone number that was set up by President Trump to handle these types of problems is
[login to see] . I have used this service and have gotten great results. Please do not give up I fought the VA bureaucracy for more than 27 years for my benefits at 100% Service connected disabled.

I would also strongly suggest you inform your local congressperson and Senator. Don't stop there become the pesky fly they can no longer ignore and give you a meeting. Save as many receipts as you can to get those reimbursed. Keep you head up and don't be discouraged. You definitely deserve this as a disabled veteran. I would strongly find a new VSO the one you have sounds lazy SOB. I WISH YOU WELL.

I would suggest the Veteran contact the Transition and Care Management Program Manager at their VA. Each VA Medical Center has a team with external contact
Each VA Medical Center also has an office of patient advocates as well as a Director and leadership team who can be contacted for assistance.

1. What is the primary and secondary medical conditions being denied treatment?
2. Do you have a state VSO expert assigned to your case?
3. Have you contacted the VISN Director?
4. Have you consulted a VA specialist/attorney?

Absolutely not, unless his/her is hindered by:
Felonious histories or dishonorable discharge or big chicken dinners or by individual choice, these factors may, often can preclude VA services to ex-military in the US;
Outside of this, any VA doctor, staffer, or provider refusing a 100% service-connected veteran healthcare or other eligible services, due to 'complexity' is derelict in duty, grossly misinformed, acting in bad faith, wrong person for VA employment, and just foul!
