Can the VA refuse to treat a 100% service-connected veteran citing their case as "too complex," and also refuse to outsource them for care?

I have a pretty 'complicated' medical case but the VA continues to refuse at times to even consult with me despite internal VA referrals for the consults. They also refuse to refer me to anyone who possibly CAN help-- or the Mission Act options don't have any providers for the care needed within hours of me. Then they refuse to cover many of the meds that outside specialists suggest, costing me >$3,000 per year out-of-pocket. Is this OK at any level and would anyone have any suggestions for how to get the needed care? This way preceeded COVID-19 issues but continues despite it. I've been told the doctors won't even agree to a telehealth or video health consult at the VA across a few departments and programs. I'd already involved a senator's office a few years back and have made almost no progress. Help, please?

I guess I am behind on va stateside health care on..I live outside of the USA my va care is a little different..they have never denied care for what I was awarded..if they awarded you care for a medical issue they should take care of you I have read about large amounts they paid for veteran medical bill..so you are a veteran who unfortunately did not walk out with a clean health record..I would not give up..good luck..

No...they can't. You need to pursue the chain of command of whoever told you this. I think someone is misunderstanding someone else.

Suggest writing to your Congressional Rep. and even one of the Veterans Groups, such as the American Legion. May want to join of them too.

Just soundsLike the most extreme case Of miss management eight dearlyDutyOn the part of the VA. Have you contacted any of the Veterans groups? At some point you're going to get to the Situation that you just have to go public and embarrass them. Get all your papers and documents together, Make sure you're 100% right And go to your local newspaper or television station. They all have Even pouring at Rose to do these kind of stories. There is no medical diagnosis Called "Too complicated" I know doctor Or a lawyer But this just sounds Like 1 million Dollar lawsuit waiting to happen.

One correction the people who thank U in public are being sincere but they really are in no position to help veterans the people who are in the position to help veterans don't care...never in my life have heard its not my job or we don't do that here so many times is at the VA...if U ever heard someone say that on active duty the person only ever said it once because. They learned their mistake or didn't and were gone...2018 Mcguire veterans hospital Richmond virginia I wanted to talk with the director about quality of care I was receiving and was told at the customer service desk..."you cannot he doesn't see veterans " do U realize what U just said to me...oh and raise the bullshit flag and the police and EMS and even a fire truck will be waiting for U when U get home...I even had the crisis line call me at 0400 about something I posted on one of the VA articles U see on this site...I wasn't slaming the people who show U their appreciation but there is so much crap I got side tracked and didn't complete my thought...Aloha

My nightmare with VA has been going on since 2001 and my experience is the VA can do anything they VA wants to because they make the rules and police themselves...the veteran is responsible and accountable for everything and the VA nothing...the word "veteran" is just a buzzword certain people use for their own self interests, the people who thank U for Ur service in the grocery store, but better get use to the reality that people may say they care but between 1600 to 0800 on week days and weekends/ holidays you are on Ur own and the first one to slam a door in your face at 1600 is the VA...U have very little voice in your care and its the VA way or the highway...of the 22 veterans who commit suicide daily and I sure that number is low from the actual number but of the 22 based on my own experience I would say 50% the VA was the direct or indirect cause of the suicide meaning VA kicked them out of medical care because they missed appointments or the frustration of being denied benefits pushes them too far.. I had to become suicidal inorder to get help and I wasn't faking it and the help I got was/ is from civilian health care...but people really don't care and attorneys and news crews aren't going to come rushing to U because it's not sensational or profitable and the VA knows this...also the VA monitors this blog...if Ur at 100% and don't have individual unemployability then try for that if U get IU and are deemed total and complete by VA which means permanent Ur at the highest level of benefits/ compensation and still have all Ur limbs...so apply for that but U should go ahead and buy a good medical health plan...if what I have said is hard to believe or U think I have a shitty attitude...if there is any interest to see why I have this shit attitude...I will be glad to post everything the VA had in May 2002...point out the multiple mistakes and incompetence of the phd candidate student who conducted the examination and the negligence of the VA psychologist who never saw me at all but signed it off as if he had...we just recently found out about this so statue of limitations should have started when we discovered this...but I am willing to post everything with nothing redacted and there is some very sensitive information about myself but if there is interest in seeing how veterans are treated by the VA and I would like U to determine if it met the preponderance of evidence or not and also let me know is it me or is it the VA

Go get it in someone's face and make sure you have the meeting on video, then go to the press. Good luck!

Yes, the can refuse. Good news, you can appeal. Pity you left out so much detail though. Have you made any attempt at an appeal? You really need to do that first. Otherwise, trying to get the decision changed will be extensively more difficult.
