Can the VA refuse to treat a 100% service-connected veteran citing their case as "too complex," and also refuse to outsource them for care?

I have a pretty 'complicated' medical case but the VA continues to refuse at times to even consult with me despite internal VA referrals for the consults. They also refuse to refer me to anyone who possibly CAN help-- or the Mission Act options don't have any providers for the care needed within hours of me. Then they refuse to cover many of the meds that outside specialists suggest, costing me >$3,000 per year out-of-pocket. Is this OK at any level and would anyone have any suggestions for how to get the needed care? This way preceeded COVID-19 issues but continues despite it. I've been told the doctors won't even agree to a telehealth or video health consult at the VA across a few departments and programs. I'd already involved a senator's office a few years back and have made almost no progress. Help, please?

SSgt Markland,
I spoke with a friend of mine who is in upper management at the VA in Dallas and he recommended that you see the patient advocate at the VA (if you have not already done this). The first step would be to send a letter to your congress person and they are to respond within 72 hours. There are 2 other steps you can take as well but the advocate would know. The VA has a responsibility to address your health issues, whether they can address the problem or not. There is a program called community care where providers in the community agree to accept VA payment. If you have already looked into this then your next step is to contact your representative. I'm sorry that you are having this problem,,,,As a healthcare provider of many decades it is a travesty for you to get the run around when the VA has the mission established by President Lincoln to care for those who have borne the battle. Good luck....

Forget sending your case to the White House....nothing to do with who is in office but rather to all the red tape you would have to go thru just to get thru to someone who could do something, unless you already know someone working there or with strings that can pull for you it is a waste of time.
I'd suggest contacting your Congressman or Senator, you will have to fill out a release of information form so they can work on your behalf with the agency in question, but they have done more for me than anything calling or writing to the White House has achieved. And I have written on dozens of issues going back 20 years or more.

I am certain they can’t do that. You dnt have to go to the WH to get help. Great to one of the Vetean group Service Officers and they will straighten it out for you. I don’t think tge VA can do tgat to anyone regardless of their disability or lack of disability Tati g.
Sounds like a frustrated VA employee just doing dnt try to dig far enough. I’ve been T&P for over 15 years and never heard of such a thing.

No it is not ok, but that is the Veterans Administration for you, people need to come to grips with the Failing functions of the VA. I am a 100% Permanently Disabled Combat Veteran, I have tried for two years to get ANYONE to address the VA terror organization, I have written over 57 letters to The IDIOT POTUS, the VA Secretary, The VSO, the Federal Government Office of Ethics, the Federal OIG, the VA OIG, the Senators, the Congressman the Members of the Committee on Veterans Affairs, the moron Senator Tester Chairman of the VA Committee, all States Agencies, The Federal Attorney General, the States Attorney General, the most popular Disabled Veteran organizations, the Directyor of the VA in our State. the Patient Advocate. NO ONE EVEN SENDS ANY REPLY TO ANY OF MY LETTERS OR FORMAL COMPLAINTS FILE WITH THEM, The VA is controlled and regulated by the VA, not by anyone other agency or Congress. They are accountable only to themselves, their primary function in life is to secure and maintain their own jobs and that is all. They do not care about doing their jobs, or taking care of the Veteran. So I know from actual experience that this is correct and true, people will more likely write and say I am incorrect etc and to do this or that, you can try all the suggestions offered but in the end of it all What I have stated above is the way it is. If you can find a legal person to even sit down with you and if you have a ton of $$$$$$$ you may be able to find someone to take your money but in th end even a private lawsuit against the VA will only drain your bank account and you will be back to square one. You and other may not like what I have stated but it is the way it is! The solution is what the Declaration of Independence states,"when the government is no longer of, by and for the People it is the duty of the People to abolish said government" see how many people out their will stand up and be counted on that statement today, not even the RallyPoint writers or readers will do that. Our government has now become the new Fourth Reich doing precisely what Adolph Hitler did in Germany, today everyone snitches on each other and just forced to accept the edicts of the new Reich. You cannot even trust your doctors, clergy or even your family members today, just like 1934

I believe what you are saying is that the federal government has become so bloated that it no longer can function in the littlest issues veterans face. Government exist to serve the people, however, this concept no longer exist. We exist to serve the federal government and without complaints
