A relative sent me a copy of an essay claiming the Missouri didn't have any illegal aliens residing in the state because of the foresight of their government in (1) making English the state's official language and (2) precluding illegals from drawing welfare and education benefits. Naturally, I had to check this out and found that it was "Mostly True". Of course, there are different interpretations of "the facts". You should check them out for yourself.

https://www.google.com/#q=are+there+illegals+in+missouri

Generally, it seems that we could save ourselves a lot of trouble if we adopted the Missouri plan. It might even save us the cost of building "The Wall".

BTW, I wanted to tag this discussion as "Illegal Aliens" but no such category exists. I didn't want to tag it "Immigrants" or "Immigration" because illegal aliens aren't immigrants, not by any definition of the word.

I would rather see us focus on "common sense" solutions to illegal immigration. Such as English as the language of the government, no benefits for non-citizens, eliminate the "anchor baby" rule, etc.

I'm not opposed to LEGAL immigration (my own family is predominately Dutch-German on my father's side and Scots-Irish on my mother's side). I just don't see why we, as a Nation, tolerate someone breaking into our house, taking our hard-earned possessions, and then demand we pay for their livelihood.

Does the Vatican have walls? Does the White House have walls? Did the wall work in Berlin for decades? Yes, they work in some instances, but when you are talking about 2200 miles with insurmountable terrain, Native American sovereign lands and the ability to tunnel under any fence, or, as proven, climb over existing fences/walls, it is not feasible. What has to be done is find a way to stop the magnets drawing illegals, by that, I mean all illegal alien/immigrants to our country. Trump made a big mistake focusing on Mexicans. They compromise about 60% of the illegal population. The issue is valid, but the identifying of a single group of people was a major error.

MCPO Roger Collins, Not to mention Trump saying, about the Mexicans, "I suppose there are some good ones, but I'm not sure". Even I didn't like that. Once you say it, it's out there, no matter what's said later, or even an apology. IMHO

MSG (Join to see) - That is something I have found to be how most legal immigrants feel. It's many natural Borneo and illegals that seem to despise their country or adopted country. I have never found a single person that went through the legal process that wasn't patriotic toward our country.

SGT (Join to see) - If that was what he said, I would agree. What the anti Trumper's seem to leave out is his statement referred to illegals. Big intentional omission in my opinion.

I had to put a fence around my place, the home sat in the middle of 2 acres, 1/8 mile down a dusty dirt road. It was not to keep my dogs in, it was to keep others out. We had two dogs come onto our property and attack our two dogs that were innocently sunning themselves on the porch. That's when the fence went up.
Look up and see what Ellis Island was for. Remember the Statue of Liberty does say all that stuff of bring me your tired poor etc, but there was fine print. At the time, ships were the only transportation. Coming into New York, they stopped at the island, people were screened for disease and criminals. If your good to go, you went to the mainland, and took off on your adventure. If not, nope. You brought a skill, a dream and you made it or not, upon those attributes. There were no handouts, except in some cases, 4 stakes, and Go West, find some land, drive the stakes in the 4 corners, build your dream within.
In the 40's, a lot of 18-19yo kids were storming the beaches, now a lot of 18-19yo are whining about having a safe place from "words" .. Stomping on the very flag that represents all the blood sweat and tears keeping the freedom.
So come, knock on my door, I'll let you in, give you a meal, a refreshing shower, shave, be on your way. But do NOT crawl in my back window, help yourself to what's in the fridge, take clothes out of my closet, the cell phone off the table, and drive off in my car, which in essence is what an illegal is doing to this country.
According to a FY 2015 Government Accounting Office PDF file I stumbled upon earlier that says over 79K displaced immigrants have already been placed in the USA, spread around 42 states, it shows where and how many went to each major city area. Each have been given housing, substance, cell phones, transportation, either vehicles or bus passes. The amount spent is absurd. We all know here how Fiscal Years are derived; so these are here "legally" apparently, no wonder no one got a SS increase or raise last year they spent it all on this.

Do we need a fence to stop illegal trespassing into the United States?

My apologies for a second shot at this! If the many generations who came to the US had not learned english (as did my family) we would never have been able to accomplish the feats that this nation has. Imagine service mebers speaking multiple languages but not the same, imagine the same for polie, fire, community service. A common language would help to solve many issues, we say that we have cultural divides and a lack of understanding of one another, maybe just maybe, it starts with a common language.

Sorry for the chatter.

No, just stop the incentives for coming in. Take away automatic citizenship. Enforce taxation at the point of wages or at payment of purchase. Any good paying job should ensure no SSN fraud as well as housing. Thus ensuring that he work that we do want to farm out to other countries is the only work available.

A Mexican wall is the most inane idea to ever catch on in Big Gubberment. Humans are monkeys. They will climb or dig, or -- get this -- simply take a five-minute boat ride in either pond to circumvent the end of the wall.

Dumb, dumb, dumb idea. Illegal aliens are a problem to be sure, but a wall is not the answer.

You got it Greg. Trump wasn't the first to think about building that wall, but he expanded on it by saying things a lot of folks liked. He also got the International finger from Mexico's President when he said he would make Mexico pay for it. So many idiots to vote for. Hohum.

CPT Jack Durish - Captain; I agree that it should be up to a person who is claiming any benefit from the government to establish that they are actually entitled to that benefit.

If a person is illegally in the United States of America and is claiming a government benefit, then the government has the right to mitigation and, in this case, that would involve removing the claimant from a position where they are acting illegally.

MSG (Join to see) - Master Sergeant; Needless proliferation of redundant laws is the bane of civilization.

Don't write new laws, enforce the ones that are already on the books.

IF the logistics of enforcing the ones that are already on the books prove impossible to overcome at any reasonable expense then grit your teeth and grant amnesty for those who have been "allowed" to break the laws ON THE CONDITION that they commit no new infractions of the same law.

[You can only "enter the country illegally" ONCE unless you leave it again so it isn't like the "illegal" is commuting from TJ on a daily basis.]

Just a thought on 'walls.' Everyone, including Trump, believes the wall should be physical in nature, built along our southern border. To me, a wall is a barrier and can be physical or a manifestation (like the wall a runner hits during a marathon). So, there should be both types of 'walls.' Physically, we should secure our border with material, men and the means to keep unwanted people, drugs, etc. out of our country. But, we should also have a wall that makes those desiring to illegally enter our country, hit a wall. The metaphysical wall should be made of laws, that are clear, universal and enforced at every level. These laws could include the following:
1. If anyone should enter or remain in our country illegally, they are ineligible for employment by any person, company or government agency. If found to be employed by an individual or company, the employer will lose their license to do business within the borders of the United States, as well as with private or public customers, for a duration of 1 year. If an employer is found to violate this measure more than once, the company will be seized and sold to the highest bidder at a public auction (lock, stock and barrel).
2. If anyone should enter or remain in our country illegally, they are ineligible for any government assistance (foodstamps, welfare, unemployment, housing, education, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, etc.). Any illegal immigrant found to be receiving government benefits will be charged with fraud and a bill for reimbursement sent to the country of origin.
3. All countries with citizens illegally residing in our country, will be notified that they must remove their citizens within 90 days or forfeit all current and future US government provided benefits (military aid and assistance, foreign aid, favored trade status, etc.). Additionally, a bill seeking reimbursement for the cost of providing for illegal immigrants will be submitted to these same countries.
4. Any elected or unelected government official found to have violated the above laws will be charged with treason and upon a finding of guilt, will serve no less than 10 years in prison and upon release, loss of citizenship and relocation to a foreign country of the US government's choosing.

Borders, Language, Culture. These three things help make a country. List English as official language, take away all the freebees would be great starts. But this should have been doing YEARS ago.
