What has become of our nation? Every time I turn on the news, open facebook, speak to people in public I find myself asking this question. Do you think it’s a valid question? Take a moment and think about it. Do you find yourself confused? Does the Nation you love feel the same to you? are you Okay with your children growing up in a nation that targets its own citizens for speaking out? Do you feel okay with a Nation that wages a war on its own citizens by calling them Domestic terrorist?

Let’s face it this is not the nation I stood up and swore to defend. It’s starting to look like one of the countries I was sent to fight for. The country I took up arms to defend didn’t accuse its fighting men of being potential terrorists when we came home. But that’s just what happened in 2009 when Janet Napolitano issued a top secret memo to every branch of law enforcement stating that we were. For me I was fresh off a deployment January of 2009 a few months later in April the director of homeland defense made me feel like I had come back through a wormhole in a whole new dimension.

I would like to say it ended there, but it didn’t, hell it didn’t even begin there. The economy was seriously tanking and the federal government was out trying to prop up the auto industry with Tax payers money. Then came the housing bubble, and more bailouts. Can you imagine that you live in a country where bankers had made bad decisions and the government stepped in to help prop them back up? Think about like this banks make bad decisions rake in massive profits then the housing market crashes banks bleeding cash like a boat with a hole in the hull and no way to fix it. Insteps super government takes money from you and I and gives it back to the same banks that just threw our economy in the toilet. Now flush with cash those same banks step in and reposes those same homes they over charged for.

Then we see a massive Government takeover of health care, a health care law built on a foundation of lies much like the bail outs were supposed to help you and me.

Now we see a movement in this nation the Tea Party, its small at first and you have politicians on the left and right laughing at them. The media attacks them calling the right wingers, tea baggers and domestic terrorists. Then came another election and the tea party takes a massive number of the seats in congress. Now republicans are scared even the democrats are worried so somehow the IRS has been given authorization to target them.

Scandal after scandal gets tossed aside as being a fake, the left say don’t watch fox! Lies all Lies! Reminds me of the scene in Wizard of OZ “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!” Hell look at Hillary Clintons campaign. What Difference does it make? I will tell you it makes one hell of a difference especially to each and every man and woman that spilled their blood on the battle field! For my Brothers and sisters that came home in flag draped coffins! Those of us who had to hold our brothers and sisters in our arms praying with them as they died! For those of us who came home to nothing, our spouses gone! For those of us who can’t get rid of the war, the war we carry with us every day and every night as we fight to find piece inside ourselves! And you hide what belongs to the people on a privet server, and the moment you are told to turn it all over you delete it! Oh yea I believe she is out to help make America great, and I have a slightly used unicorn for sale!

Now we see racial division cutting us as a people as a nation. The day Roof shot 9 people my heart sank, I felt that pain and I cried gone were 9 Americans 9 of our fellow citizens gunned down in the house of our lord! Not nine African Americans; but nine Americans! This whole thing of lumping us into divided groups of people based on race makes me sick to my stomach! There is only one dominant race on this planet and that’s the Human race! Black, white, yellow; we are all human and for those of us who were born here and those that immigrated here legally we are all Americans! The color of our skin makes us no less so!

The Left calls people who hold conservative values terrorists. They say we are seditious! They call us fascists, but fascism is more closely aligned to the left in belief. They lump us in with Nazis story after story on every network save one calls us right wing extremists! I am sick of it, I am sick of having to explain to my daughters that I am not a Nazi, because of the garbage their teachers are teaching them. Or other parents who hate genuinely hate me because I am a conservative. I am sick of sitting here watching the country that me and so many others sacrifice for, get torn apart because it fits some leftist liberal agenda.

It makes me sick to think that this is the country my daughters have to grow up in, and I am sick to think that we have gone so far that we can’t save it.

The first Amendment is under attack today, they call it hate speech people speaking out on issues of race or guns or a damn flag! They let this garbage spew from their mouths attacking every value we hold true as Americans. Gone are the days of being able to take care of your family’s needs, Gone are the days your children can walk home from the park without being snatched up by the state! Gone are the Days of freedom and I fear that because we are a divided people we will fall.

Everything we know and believe is under attack from some group of incite spreaders. I can't agree with or understand half of the stuff that these splinter groups/individuals are wanting and demanding but our elected officials seem to be bowing and caving to them more and more. We've become a nation of 300 million entitled individualists who care more about themselves then their neighbors, communities or country. It's a damn shame.

With all of the random and/or targeted shootings, I almost feel safer while deployed. There, you are trained on what to watch for.

But how do you train your family on preparing for this? Shouldn't we feel safe going to a movie? Going to religious worship? It's a balancing act between being careful and living your life.

The current state of our nation causes me to want to ex-pat when I retire if we keep heading down the road we're on. It also causes me to question whether I should continue to serve a nation of people I'm finding myself more and more separated from in beliefs and values. Why should I continue to serve a country that increasingly does not stand for honorable things worth fighting for in my own opinion?

What a noble question? I think you may find your answer if you think standing for honorable things is worth fighting for? I think you can be a light to others. Fight the good fight brother and remember that other are actually drawn to the the light and right is still right.

The only problem with that is, ex-pat to where? I do wonder whether the things I hear everyday are majority opinions or just the voices of those with the bullhorns.

You are completely right....especially after todays ruling by the SCOTUS....I wonder if there is any hope for the USA anymore....The liberals in both the Republican party (in my opinion there is no republican party anymore) and mostly in the socialistic democratic party...I think we are on a path of no return. I think people need to study the news and history more.....there is a lot of parallels with Germany in 1920's and 30's before Hitler took place.
Please people.....don't ask for examples....you all have google and bing like I do....please do the homework.

It saddens me what American has become.
We hold new laws and regulations above the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We don't need anything on paper giving us explicit rights. The more we ask the government to ensure we have these rights the more rights are taken away from the Constitution. Where is the freedom of religion if clergy are government mandated to perform same sex weddings? Why does the government need to be involved in marriage? When did freedom of speech only become okay as long as you don't offend a minority? If your actions or beliefs are not illegal, then we don't need a law or regulation telling you its legal! I see a divided nation full of hate for anyone who has a difference of opinion. Why can't we respect each other's beliefs and cultural differences without trying to force our beliefs on someone else? You say Happy Holidays, I say Merry Christmas. I'm not being rude or disrespectful any more than you are, we just choose to celebrate the season in a different way.

Thank you MCPO Darryl Yoes for twisting my response to make it about denial of marriage. Please let me know when you decided to read my post correctly and realize I said nothing of the sort. This discussion has nothing to do about marriage it's about what America has become, and despite the grounds we've gained in select areas whether America is moving in a positive direction. In my opinion, we are not moving in a positive direction and we don't need the government to regulate things like marriage amongst many other things.

Wow, clearly you don't understand what I'm saying at all. So I asked why the government needs to be involved in marriage and why its even regulated by the government in the first place, and you think that I'm for liberal regulations that benefit myself? Do you just like to infer that you understand what I'm talking about so you can create a disrespectful argument towards whatever agenda you are pursuing? I AM AGAINST GOVERNMENT REGULATION. It doesn't matter if it's a same-sex or opposite-sex marriage, it's not the government's business. We are explicitly granted freedom of religion, so yes I have a problem when anyone in the government thinks its okay to forgo that right in favor of 'equality'. Government regulation is notoriously inefficient. It’s expensive, and does not necessarily solve the problem to begin with. Take the organic food market; USDA certification is expensive and cumbersome, and this government definition of organic doesn't ensure the product is actually organic. It only shows that the government recognizes the product as organic through its own set of regulations. I buy my milk at the farmer's market, the only difference between the farmer's convention milk and organic milk is that they are allowed to give the cows that produce conventional milk antibiotics. The farmer waits twice as long as it takes for the antibiotics (per USDA guidelines) to leave the cow's system before milking the cow. So in theory, there should be no effect on the milk between the two, yet I would I have to pay $2 more for 'organic' in order to avoid the possibility that the cow producing the conventional milk was sick, had antibiotics, and there was for some unknown reason a residual effect in the milk. Instead of regulating against the use of toxins, allow Americans to educate themselves and allow them to chose to buy from companies that do not use anything that could be potentially toxic. Yes, there's crappy companies that would take advantage of this (and do take advantage of how regulations are written), but if Americans choose to educate themselves the good companies would get business and the these other companies would be unable to compete. Personally, I would buy raw milk, but I don't even know what states that's legal in anymore. So maybe I'll just go buy a cow, though I'm sure there's some regulation (whether company or government) against having a cow in an apartment building.

To further clarify you took two questions out of at least four questions I asked, they claimed my whole post was only about those two questions. Stating an opinion in regards to the constitution can also not be claimed as 'vague constitutional facts,' as you mentioned. As far as I'm aware, marriage has been regulated by the states, if the citizens in these states choose to vote to make aspects of marriage such as polygamy illegal then that is their right to do so. It is also their right to vote to amend those laws as necessary. We are a people's republic, and the people should maintain the power over these laws. If we continue to take authority away from the states and the people in them, there will be no reason to have states other than to serve as a geographical identification.

Also, it is illegal to film someone through a window while they are getting dressed using a drone, but I'll allow you to look up those regulations rather than waste my time (here's a hint some of them a can be found on the FAA website).

I look at America in terms of age compared to other long established governments and republics. I don't fear what America has become. I see America like a spoiled teenager, who gets everything and is never happy with anything. Like teenagers, America is not quite old enough to learn from it past and has not learn to take responsibility for its mistakes. This country has come a long way in a short amount of time. But if your look at the powers that once were, like Rome or current powers like England or Germany, you must realize that this country rose to power status very fast without the lessons of having a couple of real butt spankings from rival teams. The people of this country today no clue of what it means to truly fight for their freedom. No other country has invaded us, burned our house or killed our kids and family or pushed us to fight for the very soul of freedom on our soil, except us. We treat our own countrymen with disdain, we refuse to ever help our fellow countrymen in their greatest time of need. We send our Soldiers, Sailors and Marines to fight pointless wars only to cringe at the wounds that can be seen and ignore the ones that can't. Yes we have had a few terrorist attacks in which the military responded to overseas. But the average everyday American has no clue of what the sounds or mortar fire are except on the 4th of July. We have a lot of people it talk a gang of S&#t and carry guns talking about what patriots they are. I have to say if I fear any thing it is that those people and all of the others that live so blissfully ignorant of what the true cost of freedom, will not have the courage to stand up when the time comes. And it will. America has a lot of growing up to do.

America has the second oldest continuous government on earth. We have served as a model for many other nations. We are not teenagers on the world stage. America does seem to be entering a dark period. If you are looking for perfection good luck.

What's funny is this all started after 9/11, when Bush was in office and he started the Patriot Act. Democrats immediately condemned it. Now that a Democrat is in office, many Democrats support it and Republicans condemn it.

Vote them all out and get a real person in office, like a Libertarian. Basically anybody who is not a member of the Big Two parties.

But your focus seems to be on "White Right Wing Extremists" and that in and of itself is a problem. Not with just you, but a lot of liberal Americans seem to feel that way, focusing on one issue and not all of them. Failing to see the "big picture" in other words.

Maybe. It just doesn't seem like there's the same level of anger and fear from left-wing extremists lately. I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm saying they exist in smaller numbers and have been less likely over the past two decades to enact any plans for violence. I could very-well be blind to it. I'd be hard pressed to name a group (PETA, maybe, if they're considered dangerous?). If you've got light to shed on that, by all means.

I blame the media. In my opinion the media is the root of racism against "non minority" ethnic people (particularly whites). It seems like whenever white people commit crimes it's all over the news how this "racist extremist" committed a crime. Yet when minorities commit a crime the media portrays them as the victim who has no choice but to act out.

Case in point: Michael Brown. It was proven that he punched the officer through his car and tried to grab his weapon before running away. It was also proven that he charged at the officer, forcing him to use deadly force.

Now if you know anything about me I firmly believe that cops should be held accountable. I also believe that there is a problem with a "police state" in America. I further believe that blacks and other minorities are more subject to police profiling than whites are.

However, I also believe that cops serve a necessary role in society and are sometimes unfairly portrayed by the media.

However, the media won't report this because people don't want to hear the truth. They want to believe whatever garbage their chosen news outlet spews out. Sensationalism sells after all.

I'm not one to cry over spilled criminals, Brown included. Racial or police violence wasn't taken into account at all in the question of domestic terrorism. It really only accounts for things like militia activity, extremist hate groups like the Klan, or for a bit of an older example, abortion clinic bombings and the federal building in Oklahoma City. Those are all things that are right-wing. They are real concerns. Then you have people like Roof and Tsarnaev; under what labels do they fall? Roof could easily be argued as being far-right, but it would be somewhat intellectually dishonest, as I don't think he had so much of a political bent as a racist agenda. Tsarnaev doesn't seem to fall into any category at all other than "domestic religious extremist/terrorist," but I'm sure if someone tried hard enough they could call him far-left. It's all about your definitions and labels.

Are they the largest concerns? I certainly don't think so. I think gangs and the militarization of the police forces in America are our two most pressing concerns involving violence. Unless you stretch your definitions a bit, those things aren't going to fall under domestic terrorism. As it stands, potentially-violent groups of "militia" that openly hate the government and make claims about wanting to start a violent revolution or assassinate the President are - by far - the largest concern for domestic terrorism, and they are largely veterans. The KKK is always a concern, and they are actively recruiting veterans.

Upsetting or not, the memo wasn't wrong.

Our media looks out for their profit margins to the detriment of our way of life, creating cultures of hate and mistrust and making mountains out of mole hills. People are terrified of being labeled as a racist and feel powerless to confront people like Farrakhan who scream for racial war. We bend over backwards to cater to the muslim religion yet oppress Christian beliefs. People expect entitlements and scream constitution and then call for the murder of white people and police. In the news today, a new muslim flight attendant is suing because she is expected to serve alcohol and it is against her religion. Apparently, she is so devout that it took 2 years to realize that this was against her religion. So she waits to get paid while the Christian clerk who refused to accept same sex marriages sits in jail. I am tired of people claiming religious accommodation instead of just finding another job where they can pray until their heart's content. People push cops to the absolute limit and then act surprised when they are mishandled or arrested. Our government continues to make life miserable for law abiding gun owners. We treat people who illegally enter the country like victims. My point being, our government picks and chooses what parts of the constitution it will support and is more concerned with offending someone than defending the rights of it's own citizens. They use the military until they are worn out and then act surprised that they are expected to care for them after they are no longer of use to them. Heck, I can go on forever.

Yes, it is a valid question... In general, I think our nation has rapidly approved and implemented (imposed?) far too many changes within a short amount of time without really thinking about nor fully considering and comprehending the 2nd, 3rd and subsequent orders of effects... If it doesn't stabilize. it's only a matter of time before it all implodes... To me, this moment in time has surpassed the calm before the storm, and the storm is beginning/continuing to build... Do I fear it? A little... I'd be lying if I said otherwise, but I'm more saddened and disappointing than anything else as we, the American people, seem to notice this change, but are doing little more than just standing back and observing...
