RP Members and Connections Memorial Day is here. Please share your memories with us in a picture of those we honor and remember on this Memorial Day and those to come. This will be one of those questions that just keep giving us great memeories of those we've lost who served this great nation.

Here are pictures of my Father Donald Burroughs (Army Korean War Veteran) who passed on October 7, 2016, and my Father-in-Law Loren Leon Hazeldahl (Marine Vietnam Veteran) who died from suicide on December 8, 2015.

I have many more that I could add to this post and I will remember them in silence.

Please coninue to share your pictures and memories with the RP Nation for this Memorial Day and those to come.

My father entered the army at the age of 31 a few weeks after Japanese aircraft dropped bombs on the U.S. Navy ships in Pearl Harbor. He served in the South Pacific on the Islands of Okinawa, Saipan
and Iwo Jima. As a young boy I looked up to my father as my personal hero and a man I wanted to be like when I became a adult. When he passed away I lost my father and my best friend.
Photos are dad after BCT. Dad in center with his buddies holding machetes against his neck on Saipan.
Dad on right with his buddy on board a troop ship in South Pacific. Dad on Saipan's Isley Field.

SGT Rick Colburn - Dad passed away June 1, 1977. I know he is still with me today and lives on through me. Dad brought home physical and psychological problems when he returned to the states in 1945. War veterans returning home after World War II ended did not receive the help returning veterans receive today. Dad kept his war experience to himself until the day in 1968 when I enlisted in the Army. Only then did he start talking to me about his experiences during the war. I appreciate your very kind words and may God bless you on this special day. From a brother MP, THANK YOU.
Dad home in 1945 and he is 2nd from left on back row with his brothers in arms.

TSgt Rodney Bidinger, I was fortunate to meet Col. Day on a three day cruise to the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral, FL in JUL92. The Legion of Valor was conducting their annual meeting on the cruise, and Col. Day was the keynote speaker for their dinner meeting (and, of course, a member). I introduced myself, and he graciously invited me to the dinner and presentation, which I immediately accepted and then attended! He signed a copy of his book "Return with Honor", which I have to this day.
Requiescat in pace.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs, I’d like to remember my father also, although he was not a casualty of war. My father, Jack Curlee (ENS-LTJG) served in the U.S. Navy from JUL43 to JUN46 during WWII and spent much of that time in the Pacific Ocean on USS LST-78. He was an excellent father and husband. He was a quiet, genteel man, and a true gentleman. I’m glad he was my father.
He died 10SEP15 at the age of 93. Requiescant in pace patris mei.

I caption this picture as 2 sets of brother. My brother on the far right, Dad in the middle, and his brother right in front of him. He has been stationed in Luxembourg since Jan 7 1945.
Also have Dad's Brother Vern, WWII, AAF, died of brain cancer in 1978. Dad's brother Bill was killed in a train accident just before WWII. Uncle Ed was in WWII as a Marine, he died of a car accident in 1955. Ed's son, who we call Uncle Jake, died 6 weeks ago. He flew in 168 combat missions in a C-121 snoop plane in Vietnam. My Dad, Brother and I, all retired Air Force. That spans Korea, Vietnam, El Dorado Canyon, Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Johnson's have served, but we have run out of men to continue.

TSgt Larry Johnson Thanks for sharing all the photos and memories of your family. May they all be forever remembered Larry. I've been to the Luxembourg cemetery many times in the past when I was stationed in Belgium. That is a beautiful cemetery.
