Do you still go to the range since you left the service?

Since I left the military, I haven't been shooting nor I plan to go. I'm not opposed to weapons or shooting. It's just something I desire to engage in since I transitioned. After being out two years, I still occasionally think about range qualification days. I know many of my comrades and vets who own personal weapons and still go shooting today. I'm a bit curious about the post-service shooting choices. Do you still shoot or no? Why or why not?

We have a local range where we go at least once a month to sight in new handguns or long guns. Although we have a range on the farm there are no partitions, no shelf to prop elbows on but everything is measured in yard lengths and at 50 yards we have spikes for shooting cantaloupes and small watermelons. I use a black magic marker to draw eyes, nose and mouth. The wife is a natural, I have to really work at it. No scarcity of ammo around here but at current prices my 300 MAG and .45 cal are too expensive to go through more than a hundred rounds per weapon. QQ We have ammo boxes full of all round types shoved under both sides of the bed.(Thousands of 22 cal rounds for the two 22 cal rifles. This month I bought a new Remington 770 / 300 MAG and she bought a 9MM Walther PPS.
The range officer where we go is excellent, runs a tight ship and gives excellent pointers on aiming technique. We share a range bag with our earplugs, ear muffs and protective glasses with our gun towels and all handguns for the visit. There are only a few places I'd rather be than at a range....

Fortunately my range sells reloads so I can get out of there for about $20

I try to go at least twice a year and put a couple hundred rounds through my carry piece. Make sure I can still hit what I'm aiming at.
I'd love to get out more, as there is just something zen about shooting. Especially on the rifle. The only things I have to worry about are me and that target.

While I am not out yet, I do own personal firearms. I will continue to go out as often as budget and time allow.... I also enjoy hunting, so at the very least, would have to go out pre-season to ensure I can still hit something.

I had to sign away my right to own a firearm because of my STBI. So I am not allowed to own or shoot one. At the time i had to or I couldn't receive my compensation. Anyone else have this happen to them (veterans) or hear of it happening?

SPC David Shaffer I have heard of that and it is the stupidest BS I have heard of. As I understand if you are diagnosed by the VA with TBI or PTSD they will pull your compensation until you sign away your second amendment rights. I gave up a good portion when I was AD and I understood it, but you are now a private citizen and not a felon or ruled incompetent by a court. It is VA bowing to gun control groups in my opinion.
