Does being on or off an installation while on leave with a trimmed and lined beard make a difference?

I’m currently on leave and had went in to check my email and ask about updates while PCSing. My 1SG mentioned my beard was out of compliance due to being lined up, when my commander said he’s on leave, 1SG replied “He’s on a military installation”. I checked AR 680-1 and TB Med 287, and found nothing pertaining to leave. I’m not on duty or in uniform. If I’m ignorant I’d really like to educate myself on the subject because for 15 years this is the first I’ve heard that. But I know he KNOWS regs

The army talking about uniform and grooming regulations? you got to be shitting me! the Army has sunk so low in the past few years that I am expecting pink berets any day now. turbans, ear rings, corn rows, etc!

It's an old rule they got rid off sometime ago. Might still be a policy in your Division Blue Book though.

Keep checking regs, I am pretty certain 6-7 years ago they came out with a change we had to be clean shaven even on leave. I thought it was BS and never looked into it, plus I never went in on leave anyplace someone would heckle me about it.

SSG (Join to see) - Those people are out there and even as a field grade officer I received the same treatment. I never would have said anything to you and if someone is concerned how you looked to junior enlisted, I would have focused on you working on Army things when not required to. That is a better example to point out. Leaders have responsibilities 24/7 and that is exactly what you were doing.

If you are on leave youd do not have to meet hair requiremnts, they are for uniforms only.

except our sikh battle buddies, those with religious exemptions, and those with medical shaving profiles who keep it trimmed according to their profiles. Those in that category are not the taliban but service members.
