Ever had the situation where it is time to get new military ID cards for your away-at-college dependent child? They don't open the office on the weekends when your child can go to the post to get his or her card made. It can be frustrating trying to work the logistics in that small 30-day window. What can be done to improve the effiency in dependents obtaining military ID cards? Add a Saturday each month? What do you suggest?

There are options out there. There are also reserve and national guard units just about everywhere that can help. They maintain a DEERS ID facility. It is not just for National Guard. I go to Raleigh to get my ID card instead of Bragg. I walk in and I am out of there in 10 minutes with a new ID card. I would reach out to those facilities for help.

And you can do it online know it looks like. Here a link to an online location for IDs.

Silly goose... You are assuming the Army cares about you and your family.

COL Charles Williams Sir, the Army really doesn't care about anyone if you think about it. There is always someone to replace you. Had a 1SG tell me that when I was doing regular PT about a month after back surgery. Never would have figured she would tell someone something like that. But if you think about it, it is definitely true.

CH (MAJ) William Beaver Chaplain, I ran into that situation. I was stationed at Bragg, my daughter was going to to college in El Paso. I did my part of the paperwork at my BDE S-1 sent it to my daughter. She went to Bliss, gave them the paperwork and got a new ID. Took a little longer but it all worked out in the end.

It would be nice if certain services were available say every other Saturday. I would gladly see Mondays as an off day to facilitate this. I think the current state of affairs assumes that everyone has a stay at home spouse that can access services during normal working hours.

They could have reservists issue the cards. They need the experience and the practice. I think that the Air Force used to do this.

Some Guard and Reserve units can issue IDs. Check to see if that is an option.
