How do you think it would be to go 1 week with NO Google?

My son has never lived in a world without:

Google, Wikipedia, Cellphones, .... the internet

I entered the Marine Corps before everyone had an email account, and there was usually only 1 computer per "office." Back in the days of Banyan Vines, Lotus, and Windows 3.1. I remember the old Yuks... (Big green ruggedized computers for those who aren't familiar with them). We used to use acetate overlays on our maps.... and save them for years.... The 2 shop had a laminating machine and there was "brother in law deals" across the shops to trade supplies so that you could get laminated maps.... It was the golden age before power point... back when you needed a SSgt to check out an overhead projector.. but any PFC could check out a HMMWV....

Having a mobile phone has given us all of mankinds knowledge at the tip of our figuretips.. it's awesome. But it's also changed the way we interact. some better some worse.

I remember the old timers talking about mimeograph machines though... and how easy we had it... so...

About as much impact as 40 years ago when admin section ran out of carbon paper (yes there was such a thing). Google and internet in general have become so ingrained in day-to-day operations that it's almost impossible to imagine not having it.

Nobody plans anymore, because they can contact anyone at the drop of a hat. I remember when my dad got a bag phone for work sometime in the mid '90s. He used it a few times a week. By the early 2000s cell phone use was common up here but service was extremely spotty. The boss might have a cell phone, but no crew members were expected to. Today, if you don't have a cell phone, you can't function because no plans ever get set in stone. Everything is fluid, and it certainly hinders productivity. I would be very happy to go back to a world without Google, cell phones, or internet. They are useful, but way overused.

We survived with out it in the past, but who is to say that someone else would not have invented it.

I recently did this while on a cruise. At first I thought the lack of internet would be a deal-breaker, but it turned out to be a non-issue. I had a lot of emails to catch up on later though.

Horrible, just horrible.

Now there are enough fast followers to make a week surviveable. Duckduckgo, vimeo, apple phones etc. Also Brave for chrome!

Bing would like that. But, I am a major subscriber to Google, the grand daddy of search engines.

Would be difficult in terms of not having immediate access to answers, it can be done. I will just live out of the library.
