I'm not, but I was first introduced to them about 10 years ago or so. Our Glock program was Military/LEO only (Basically Glock said if you had "any creds" you were good). Someone showed me their Coast Guard Auxiliary ID (he didn't claim to be military, just wanted to buy the gun).

I ended up looking up the program. It's kind of cool.

I am AD Coast Guard an have had great experience working along side the USCG aux. At my last station we had a great auxiliary that helped out all the time. One retired couple stood our communication watch one day every week and would train our new e-2 and E-3. They had been doing this for over a decade and were more knowledgeable than most. The aux would always volunteer for our Christmas party and buy gifts for the lower ranked enlisted children. I can't give enough praise to the USCG Auxiliary!

Thank you for your answer. I am glad to hear that you appreciated the time and training all of us Auxiliary members give. I enjoy it a lot.

I'm a member of the Auxiliary. I don't do much with them currently because I am a Navy Reservist. However when I am Retired in the next few months. I plan to become very active, so I can stay in service to my country in one way or another.

Your ARCOM should be the top award on your rack, not your AAM.

Seems interesting, but how would this play with someone who's already retired from the active military or someone with a VA rating who's disabled? I know a few folks who'd like to continue to serve.

It has no effect as you are a civilian volunteer as a member of the Auxiliary.

I have worked with the CG Aux many times. Typically members own their own boat or plane, but they don't have to. They are compensated for fuel, but volunteer their time.

I did my short stint in the AUX for a couple years in High School as well as a couple years in college. The Auxiliary University Program, while it was a great concept, was poorly implemented

I hadn't even conceived of the possibility. That would be a cool Idea for Sea Service Veteran like myself. Although don't know what I would patrol. The Nearest body of water is Tomahawk Creek and it is the big or deep. I have been known to help look for Bodies in Tomahawk Creek after very strong rains here.

You might want to look into it. There are many jobs available beyond patrolling and it is a great way to keep in touch with your water roots.

I am not a member but I am somewhat familiar with them. They patrol rivers and lakes that are part of a river system including the lake about a mile from my house. Mainly they are concerned about safety. Not only do they patrol they also teach boating classes and offer free safety inspections of any size boat. I am sure that they also do other things but that is what I am familiar with.

Also in Chicago, I went through AD CG Recruiter training and was certified as a CG Recruiter and worked in a recruiting station. Yes, we do not get paid but we do serve along side the AD CG when we can. Not every Flotilla is near an AD CG unit so it limits what jobs can be done besides the boating safety aspect and inspections but the opportunities are out there and MANY Auxiliary members serve and do many of the same jobs as AD CG.

I've looked into going with them quite extensively...I'm total perm disabled, the rules about what I can volunteer with, and how, are pretty strict...I'd really be most obliged if anyone here might be able to chat with me about HR and recruiting stuff, there's some stuff I'd really be most eager to ask about, whenever convenient, many thanks....
