Following RAND's study and the one by the Palm Center previous to that, it's clear that there are thousands of transgender people serving right now.

How should the military accommodate these individuals? Should they be allowed to follow the regs of the gender they identify with? Should facilities be assigned by gender, or the physical sex of the service member?

Constructive responses please.

1. Height/Weight standards should be based on biological sex, not what you identify with. Of course if a "one-standard" is set then this is a non-issue.
2. The military should not have to pay for the surgeries, or medication for those in "transition".
3. Relates to above, but this also includes elective surgeries for dependents. Seen many spouses get lifts, and other cosmetic surgery...that shouldn't be paid for by the tax payers.
4. Remove all the barriers. Make "EVERYTHING" co-ed. This way we remove special accommodations.

If a service member identifies as the opposite sex, but still likes the opposite sex, does that make them gay/lesbian?

Yes, generally it does. Orientation and Identity are pretty independent of one another. I agree with you on funding cosmetic surgeries. But we can't cherry pick, either all of them get covered or none of them get covered.

SPC Angela Burnham - I agree that there are some needs for cosmetic surgeries, but those should be surgeries to repair injuries that a SM received while on duty. Seen spouses get breast augmentation after saying that their breast size were having a negative impact on their marriage...

In my unit(s) we would have beat the hell out of a transgender until they decided if they were a Man or a Woman. This is nothing GOD created, it is an attention getting fad in the majority of cases. In some cases, regular psychiatric visits may be necessary.

"Beating the hell," out of ANYONE is wrong; regardless of the motive or viewpoints. Otherwise, I agree with you that it's as much a fad as anything else, and more likely, a form of mental illness. I don't say that with the intent to insult anyone although I'm sure it will - just my viewpoint as I understand biology.

If you believe in God, then you should believe that God created these new chromosome combinations, right? Because that is what some of transgendered people are - a new sex. If you believe God is the creator then you MUST believe God created them. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.

Good thing we don't have to live by your religious beliefs. There isn't proof of any gods. I am glad your type of units and service members aren't around anymore. The military is better off without you and those like you.
