How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

I agree with this article. The Corps with its standing mission could be rolled into the Army ranks similarly as the other specialized Commands.
Just as the Commands of Special Forces and Delta Force have been established within the United States Army, so could the Marine Corps.
Joint Service operations aboard Ship would not change. The Army would be the true Master of World. By Air, Land, and Sea.

This one can be tricky. Having been a Drill Instructor, you punish the masses on the spot and let the peer pressure begin. In basic training you are trying to break down the individual and begin the team building. Outside of basic training, that is when you start the individual counseling with the team or squad leader. If those don't work and the attitude continues, then move on to UCMJ.

Disobeying a lawful order in the military you could lose your rank or some money. Do that in the outside world you will be out of a job. So smarten up.

The only response to a senior NCO is yes sgt, aye sgt, check sgt, or any response in the affirmative. Nothing else will do.

In the Petty Officer Leadership course I was required to take as a new PO3; I was taught to counsel and discipline away from the others. I would have the individual stand fast until after quarters and then explain the error of their ways. Always ensure supervision is aware of your actions and if need be "EMI" would be applied. If the situation is chronic, write them up and restriction would be applied.

Immediately inform him of his insubordination and remind him that this is not a choice. This is an order. CM on assignments and have soldier stand fast after dismissing the rest of the work detail. Remedial PT until supervisor is tired. E-2 mouthing off to an E-5 is unacceptable. There are ways to respectfully disagree without attempting to undermine someone in a place of authority. Mouthing off in formation is not it.

This is actually pretty simple question. This person requires physical discipline. In the form of additional PT. Should that fail, six their options are extra duty, or reduction in rank, and forfeiture of pay, in other words an article 15.

"Scold in Private, Praise in public" have said individual stand fast, continue on with daily formation responsibilities, dismiss formation. Pull E-2 aside along with another ranked Petty Officer. Inform Sailor that the third party is there to observe verbal counseling session. Begin to dig into the issue at hand and find out if an underlying factor (family issues, career issues,etc) is present. If no issue prepare three separate counseling chits. Disobeying lawful order, disrespect to Petty Officer, dereliction of duties and forward said sailor to DRB so the anchors can sort the issue or send said Sailor up the chain. A lot of people on here are completely blowing the fact that today if you raise your voice to some of the Sailors, or Marines, or whoever you are speaking to its an EO complaint and a career killer. Ink is heavier than verbal words on paper.
