Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

I would advise them that they are about to make a career decision and give them one last opportunity to accept the work assignment, if they do not then it is off to the Platoon Sergeant, then the 1SG for initiation of NJP.

I have no idea how this could have ever taken place back before I Retired. Blatant disrespect was ALWAYS met with unwavering discipline. You either did as ordered or you ended up on extra duty without any stripes for the FIRST offense, after that, pack your bags cause you are going back to your Mamma. I always strived to lead by example, work beside my soldiers and treat them with respect, maybe because I was always in a Military Police Unit I NEVER experienced anything like this scenario. YOU ALL HAVE THIS OLD SERGEANT MAJOR SCRATCHING HIS HEAD IN DISBELIEF THAT ANYTHING LIKE THIS COULD TRANSPIRE .

Push ups until I find someone else and hand out the rest of the assignments....then some extra until I say he's good to get up.

Front leaning push-up position... move! Press the floor until your arms fall off and then you'll be pressing some more!

I would give him extra duty for a week, giving him the worst jobs available, if that didn't work I would punish the whole squad hoping this would get to them that they to help this soldier get his shit together, and the last thing would be to bring up article 15 charges.

Give an order to stand fast, then address the issue in private with relevant figures input, i.e. squad leader, platoon sergeant and leader.

There's a saying " kill em with the pen" keep counseling him and if he wants to stay he will change...if not, let him out

I have him assume the proper position of Parade Rest. Explain to him he has crossed the line into being disrespectful and he will receive a counseling statement and he will be recommended for FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, DISRESPECT TO AN NCO, FAILURE TO PERFORM HIS DUTIES. Then I will tell him his assignment again and if he refuses his counseling statement will reflect he was given a second chance to comply and he failed to follow instructions for the second time as well as his actions are leading toward trying to have others follow his acts of insubordination
