How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

If no personal issues (i.e., family death) the EMI that bitch to death. If that don't work send him to the pad.

I'd tell him or her, to fucking bad do what I tell ya. Then in private put the fear of God in their eyes.

As a Platoon SGT (E7) it is my job to politic for the betterment of my Platoon and than he Company. When confronted with said individual I dismissed everyone except the Asst PLT SGT his Squad Leaser and said soldier. Informed the NCOs of my expectations on the matter and instructed them to handle the situation the best way they seem fit. If they fail in correcting the situation than I would from punishing the individual to punishing the masses. Than I take money give extra shit details and than reduction in rank. And than when all else fails Discharged with othe than honorable conditions.

Set the example for all to see quick and decisive. Then make sure you take the time to council the Marine.

I would make an example of the E2 in front of the platoon/company and process formal charges under the UCMJ.

Make them change into pt gear. And pt their ass until they can't take it anymore. It's called training a young Marine. Giving them an education.

I would continue on with what I'm doing and then pull that Soldier out and have a "discussion "with them. You give them a choose, do the assignment or get written up. Also knowing me, I would want to know why they did what they did as well....Some times there's a reason why someone is acting out and I would like to dig deeper before I could possibly ruin someone's career. If this Soldier truly has an attitude problem then he or she gets written up in my book. I can't have Soldiers hurting my Platoon and moral.
