How would you react to an E2 who "smart mouths" you in formation?

Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Well first of I would tell that soldier to stand there at parade rest, while I ask him a few questions like what seems to be his issue , because apparently he lost his freaking mind at this point. Two once he tells me his/her issue, I would come out with a plan of action for this issue. Then I would counsel him/her for disrespecting a noncommissioned officer, and then come out with a punishment that fits the crime.

Back to basics... Foot goes down, and my mouth performs an ass chewing until results commence!

There is no easy answer... an e2 already is aware of their responsibilities. An e5 is not a snco... chain of command has its place... an nco is there to delegate responsibility. ... to me it would depend on the e2 that I am working with. ... I wouldn't power thrust in formation. ... I would tell them to report to our immediate snco after formation. ... I would recommend charges as an example. ... jmo

He would be doing Dogtag push-ups till I got tired. Then I would write him up for in subordination. After a long talk with him. If it ever happened again he would be in front of the CO faster than he could say oh shit.
