Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Peer pressure always works well. Punishing everyone will ensure he gets a blanket party that night. It fixes itself.

By him being insubordinate the whole company is being insubordinate. The troops are as strong as their weakest link, that's him. That insubordination will spread at light speed with a turbo charge. Everyone must pay for his mistake, calisthenics for an hour should do the trick followed by a full gear 2 mile hike followed by a uniform inspection. This will infect other members of the team to help " motivate" this individual, as well as make the team stronger.

He would go under the barracks with his entrenching tool and dig a foxhole deep enough for him to stand up in!!!
