Here's the background. You're a senior E5. Your troops are in formation and you're handing out work for the day. You hand out an assignment to a fresh E2 with less than a year in and only a few months at your command. They blatantly complain and tell you to choose someone else. You calmly tell them they will do this task and they tell you to shove it and give it to someone else. How do you react?

Let me simply say it would be the LAST time he/she did it! I can think of a few dozen ways to do this, but perhaps my favorite one would be to leave them standing at attention until they collapsed (while I was busy with the CO doing up papers on them.)

When you are given an order you follow it. When a simple order like this is challenged it is a red flag. We k ow as service men and women past or present that we can be ordered to do borrible things. During the course of carrying out those orders it may result in our death, but we except that. So if your not ready to except that and follow orders big or small then you have no business in the military because when your put to the test you will fail and may cost you your life or the lives of your brothers and sisters. I was an E4 working on my helicopter when a fresh E2 walked up. I told him to hand me a wrench. He told me that he didn't work for me. I then stopped looked him in the eye and said "first things first, hand me the wrench. Then we will fix the other problem". After finishing the task at hand I told him to follow me. We walked into the maintenance chiefs office. Chief looked up and said "hey Vic what's up". I said this guy is mine. Cheif says ok he belongs to you. I turn looked the new guy in the eye and said now you work for me. Never had a bit of problems with him after that. Turned out to be a good troop.

personally speaking when I was an E2 I would bitch but never to the command and I would suck it up. Now what should be done. Grab your battles smoke his ass until he can't move. Then give him some fancy paperwork for being a smart ass punk

Private _________ you are ordered to ( whatever he assignment he was given), then give out the rest of the assignments and dismiss them. Then just follow up and check if he/she did it. What's the problem? He/she was given a direct and lawful order. The order was either obeyed or disobeyed. If it wasn't then you write them up. What happens after that is up to company 1st Sgt and CO. It hasnothing to do with you after that. They will decide what to do and let you (and he/she) know what is going on. Am I missing something?

Had a similar situation back in '92, had to make an example out a one disrespectful SPC. Even after several counseling sessions, was forced to 'cut our losses'and have one chartered out and all the rest feel in line. Turned out to become one of the better groups in the unit
