We have a new 1SG and new commander. The 1SG noticed one day that only 5 people in the whole company showed up to PT. Now he put out to all the platoon Sergeants that everyone must show up to PT at either the 0530 formation or the 1600 formation.

However, my section is the only one in the hospital that has a 1600-0000 shift. I am being told by my first line that the 1SG says that I have to be at the morning formation, no exceptions.

I don’t want to sound like I’m whining but at the same time it’s unfortunate that I have to explain to myself as to why this isn’t right.

As a junior enlisted I do feel stuck.

How do I bring this issue up and solve this effectively and professionally?
Also: Do you know of any Army Regulations that can support anything?

Get your ass to PT. That’s how to deal with it. We all had to do it.

Respectfully, there are going to be times when you won’t be able to get proper sleep and will have to keep moving. I know it’s unfair but hopefully this won’t last.

I get most of the comments here. I was a part of the old army too where most of would tell you to suck it up and drive on. Coming up in ranks, I was fortunate enough to have many good leaders "raise" me. Working medevac while deployed showed me and my leaders that working overnight and trying to make it to pt would not hinder my ability to take 9=lines and ensure our pilots were safe, but would also risk the lives of those we picked up. Some people here may not realize how important your role is. What I suggest is the same thing I did. Talk to your first line supervisor and have him talk with your 1sgt and commander about your section doing pt on your own.

You don't. You suck it up and get your ass in formation. You're a soldier, not a snowflake. If you can't handle it, find a new career

This just sounds like a Command that needs to be made aware the issue exists. It's easy for them to cross some wires with all the moving pieces they have. Part of the job of your NCOs is to keep their Command informed, that includes duty schedules. If you have a decent NCO they should already see the problem and be looking for a solution, but just in case they haven't the best way to approach it is with solutions in hand.

Maybe your section leader can run a PT session for y'all that would satisfy the needs of the Command?

Maybe the formation and or duty schedules could be altered to not conflict with each other?

Maybe there is another solution y'all can find. Just never bring up a problem without a couple solutions, that's just bitching. Plus, it shows you have some skills in identifying and solving problems, which are very valuable skills to showcase!

I fail to see your problem. You said that you're getting 4-5 hours of sleep, right? Well, during the invasion of Iraq, we went at least 72 hours with no sleep. You new so-called soldiers are total wimps!!!! You're a huge part of the reason I had to get out of the army. I could not stand being around soldiers who failed to perform & had no respect for senior soldiers.
