That is the distinction between the 2. One is awarded to an infantryman engaged with the enemy. The other is for any other role that was engaged in active combat.

No. They could still wear the CAB, but if they were to further earn the CIB, they then would have the choice as to which one they wanted to wear.
And before everyone gets all defensive. Many CIBs have been awarded to 11 series for being deployed, and lots of CABs as well. There are also lots of CABs and CIB that have been earned the hard way.

Agreed, I was infantry and served in Iraq during the surge. What you say is the truth and regardless of my opinion on the matter, what you said is the honest truth. It’s all dictated by higher ups and what language is used within the parameters of each MOS. For one; I do not blame soldiers or marines for pride in their specific job and it is all one team, one fight, in the end. What’s wrong with a little competition? POG may be an old and derogatory term but it seems like no one else has come up with a response except for LEG meaning to be without airborne qualifications. We all sign up for or have signed up for a job we all had to do, and if someone signs up for a job to face the enemy head on, especially in a conventional war not just an insurgency, then I am sure there will always be shit talking. It doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t pull their weight in their own way. Btw it’s all about regulations and for the record I had a buddy who was a cook and served with me on Fort Riley and he went through A LOT of shit before I even got a chance to deploy as infantry. Everyone does their job and at the end of the day we are the same team but when stakes aren’t so high, who really cares what shit talking is done. It’s good for competition and moral in my opinion.

You wear what you earn. Why would they give you something you didn’t earn just because you transfer infantry.

If that soldier earns 11B MOS and meets the other requirements for the CIB, yes. If not, no.

Not sure of the CAB, but many years ago a Brigade Commander (06) could award the CIB in exchange for the Combat Action Ribbon (USN/USMC). The soldier had to be Infantry qualified in an Infantry command. I kept the CAR as I had the EIB.... talk about confusion. But, if an individual earned a Combat award.... they might not be a POG/REMF.

They still can as long as the Navy or Marine's command approves it. As long as that has not changed in the last ten years.
Same with the Air force.
