If given the choice, I'd take the day after each holiday off and work full days the rest of the time. Since everyone else is trying to take those same days off, I actually get work done with no one in the office to keep interrupting me.

Given the option, I rather do a full day on/full day off. Most half days by the time I seriously start getting productive, is time to close shop and go home.

I would rather do day on and day off. It allows me to have the time off and spend less on gas. 65 miles round trip each day in the truck adds up.

If Given The Choice For Work Schedule During The Holidays, Would You Rather Have Day On Day Off Or Half Days

Day on day off. Saves gas.

I like it and never considered it, great way to open up my closed mind, especially when I was about to chime in to half days!

Day on, day off. No doubt about it.

CW5 (Join to see) I agree. For the last three holiday seasons the section that I work in has been running that schedule while the leadership runs half days. I have no problem with it what so ever.

We get Christmas Day and New Year's Day off, period.....unless we take leave. I am a civilian though.

SGT Steven Montgomery, I know that drill also. The civilian to military ratio where I work is like 3 to 1. I know how it goes.

LTC Paul Labrador , It might be a "Bragg" thing.
SSG(P) (Join to see) can you confirm this?

SFC (Join to see), not everyone is lucky enough to be stationed at "The Center of the Universe". I use that term loosely of course. It's just in the command that I'm tasked out to.

SSG(P) (Join to see) , Bragg might be "The Center of the Universe", but Texas is God's Country. You are welcome to visit anytime.

SFC (Join to see), I was born and raised in San Antonio. I'm a Texan no matter where I go. Thanks for the invite though.

As a nurse - I usually don't have a choice. I get paid time and a half on holiday's though - so, I can't complain. I volunteer to work Christmas because I have no children. If I had the choice - day on, day off so I could actually get things done!

I tend to like the day on day off, because even when it is your day to work it ends up being a half day due to the fact that no one else works after lunch. So really I get the best of both worlds for those three weeks.

I am personally a huge fan of the half day schedule. Just enough time at work to be there, but not enough time to actually accomplish much. It is the perfect thing for the holidays.

This is very true SFC Steven Steingiesser. Like I was telling someone else. If you think about it, working day on and off ends up being working only half a day when you do because everyone else only works until about lunch.

I'm a civilian and I work for a company that operates a 24-hr network operations centre. If my work day is scheduled on a holiday, I work it. The company pays me pretty well and we get all manner of holiday pay hours for it.

SSG Tim Everett, trust me. If I were a civilian and could work on holiday then I would. I'm no fool. That extra money made during the holidays goes a long way.

Damn right. I can afford a good bottle of Glenmorangie scotch instead of the cheap piss that passes for Irish whiskey with an unnecessary "e".

Hmm if those are my choices i would rather do half days because at least i can get some work done and if i need to do something extra i can stay. That was how we did it at my last unit it worked out great.
