To be clear, I'm not Anti Vax but I'm also not vaccinated. With all the immunizations and drugs the government has given us like anthrax, smallpox, doxycycline, mefloquine..etc. service members and Veterans are still concerned about the COVID-19 vaccine. Even after the FDA approved Pfizer, I was not planning on receiving the vaccine and would not have gotten it without being forced by the Military. Now that the pentagon mandated it, I obviously have no choice. I’m curious to hear other veteran/service members opinions are?

When drafted no one seemed to care what I wanted. I was just told to get in line with the others. I got my COVID shots as soon as I could. I'm not anti- anti-vaxer because I think there are just too many stupid people in the world.

I agree that there too many stupid people. They are the ones who blindly believe people like Fausi and cant think for themselves.

SPC Lyle Montgomery Ageed, people should think for themselves and equally know when to take good advice. How could I live knowing I gave my youngest grandchild a deadly disease.

Well I was a rather sickly person it seemed. Especially the periodic shots to stay deployable. The annual flu shot put me down for days. After I retired in 2004, I never got a flu shot. Never had as much as a sniffle.
Fast forward to 2020. Decided the way things were going perhaps I should get a flu shot. I had no, zip reaction. Perhaps over vaccinated? BUt I was a little disappointed there wasn't even a sore arm,
February this year VA offered Pfizer Covid shot. My wife cannot take shots because of health issues too numerous to mention here, so I thought at least I can go out and about with the shot.
First one was nothing. Second 30 days later, about 14 hours go by I felt "off". Ate a light dinner and went to bed. Woke up at 4am drenched, shaking, chills. Got up to pee, sponge bath, changed sheets back to bed. Woke up at 4PM, ate a snack, back to bed. Next day got up as if nothing happened.
It's not that I am for or against these shots, I just have other battles to address.
Well it's nice to have a new pharmacist in the family who has been doing some extensive research on these shots. So reluctantly, my wife got the Merderna shot two weeks ago. 7 days later her arm swelled up and a bad rash with some blisters. It's almost nothing now, but next week is her second shot. We'll see what happens.

MSG William Wold Glad you didn't have more severe symptoms from the vaccine. I had the Moderna back in January... other than a sore arm, similar to any vaccination, I was good to go. Hope your wife's second shot is symptom free. Then you both can go out! :-)

Well my wife is a retired RN of 25 years. We sold our home in April, left Washington State in May that is basically like Oregon, in almost lockdown. Got to Idaho and no masks, no signs, nothing. We traveled around 8 states, visiting friends, relatives, and sightseeing. NO timeclock and destination generally chosen by a dart at the map.
Not to politicalize this but it was interesting that the D states were locked down and the R states were not. When we stopped somewhere we had a mask in the pocket, if it said mask we did, if not we didn't.
Last time my wife was in Colorado Springs she was pinning officer bars on her son. My son lives there as a commercial truck driving instructor. So we stopped for a couple days to visit, but that high altitude doesn't sit well with my wife.
Today her son called, he was just pinned full Colonel. During the Trump administration he was a public affairs spokesman at the Pentagon. So he opted for some obscure job attached to NATO somewhere in Europe.
We're in Texas now. Might be staying a while. My wife has two sons down here, Dallas and Houston. Nice to get some heat on these old bones, but keeping an eye on the Gulf with the hurricanes. At least we can start the rig and drive off. We're currently about 60 miles North of Houston. Lots of stores open but lacking people to work.

MSG William Wold - WOW! Looks like your living the dream. I'm sure your both proud of her son earning the Colonel rank... quite an accomplishment. Not to belabor the R & D issue... but it's primarily the R States that are having the largest Covid hospitalizations & deaths. Ya'll have a fantactic & long retirement! I retired in 2005 but I'm a homebody... except for my prison ministry.
Oh... I was statiomed at Ft. Lewis for 5 months in 1970 prior to being levied to Vietnam. Beautiful State!

One thing we don't hear about is natural immunity. I had covid in Novemeber and pronounced to have immunity through it. Why should i get a vaccine that they keep saying won't necessarily keep you from getting it, won't keep you from spreading it, may die when receiving it?

It isn't what you want. In order to be deployable it is neccessary that every member of your unit be deployable. So you get where you are going and half the unit comes down with Covid. Now they need to replace your unit and get the sick out. Try thinking like a soldier.

ICU's are filling up with the un-vax'd, now they're filling graves. I doubt that anyone gave an iota of thought to what was going into your arm in basic, why now?

But this isn't a true vaccine.
"A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious disease." This shot does NOT give you immunity!

MSG Randall Rankin the vaccine was produced to immunize against the previous strain. It does provide a great deal of protection against the current strain. Flu shots are similar in that they are for a particular strain not for all.

I got vaccinated back in April for my high risk family member and because it's the right thing to do. I will do everything I can to prevent my fellow Americans dying or being disabled from Covid side effects. That someone can be in the military and say they stand ready to defend their country but refuse to get a vaccine that defends people from dying is ridiculous.

The biggest danger in people continuing to be unvaccinated is that if the virus is allowed to continue mutating we could end up with a version that the current vaccines do nothing against. We'll be right back to day one with people dying by the thousands. Of course, vaccinated people can still get and spread the virus but it's a much much lower likelihood within a population that is also vaccinated.

To me it's sort of like wearing a seat belt. Are there situations where you are going to die anyway or where the seat belt could actually hurt you? Absolutely. But it lowers the odds significantly and the situations where it will hurt you are very rare.

Until it does, Most other vaccines work. Like the MMR. As far as Covid Vaccine goes not enough study on it too much political pushing by those that do not know how these kinds of things work.
But I believe that we have the right to choose for ourselves. Especially since the so called expert's saying we all have to get the vaccine. Can not to us the people the same thing twice. I really like the one that say's. If you get the vaccine you can not get sick or make someone else sick. Then there are all the people that got sick after getting to vaccine.
And now the Great Biden and Fouche say even if you get the vaccine you can get sick and pass covid to other's.
But who am I to think for my self.

SGT Charles Bartell - Mask doesn't work, vaccines don't work. look at the stats, there is no difference between now and a year ago. Just saying. what Happened with this is my body, my choice stance with abortions, and now with the vaccine,.

MSgt (Join to see) - You are right the mask's are a joke. The Virus size is 0.125mc, And the best make the N95 only goes to .300mc. just more one more thing to buy from CHINA.
The vaccines do not work. look at how many people have still died after getting both of the shots. Does Biden have stock in the Drug company's health making the Vaccines.
