If we have a female POTUS, would she be expected to adhere to cultural customs?

There has been discussion over how First Ladies abide by customs when traveling overseas. If there were ever to be a female President, should she be expected to abide by those or no? (This is not about was Melania right or wrong with no veil in Saudi and a veil with the Pope).

World leaders don't wear kilts when the go to Scotland. I would say as a world leader they would be equal to those they are meeting with. Regardless of being male or female, if they don't respect your status of a nations leader they won't respect you because you chose to wear a veil.

I just had the thought the other day when I saw Trump doing an all male dance in Saudi Arabia and I wondered what would they do if we ever have a female President...and then they keep talking about Melania and I just wondered. Just a thought is all. I know I wouldn't if I was President. Just curiosities about how that would go. I guess I could look to see if any female world leaders have visited Saudi Arabia anytime.

I think less of them for not wearing kilts when going to Scotland or otherwise. Of course, few men have the knees or claves for it but that is another discussion.

The answer is NO. foreign leaders under Saudi law are not required to adhere to these customs including a head scarf wear. Thersa May, former British Prime Minister didn't, neither did the German Chaceller Angela Merkel of the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice nor did Hillary Clinton when She was Secretary of State. First ladies Laura Bush and also Michelle Obama did't either nor more recently Melina Trump. This isn't anything new. This is still a meeting of world leaders and there is mutual respect shown in each and every one of those cases.

I never said it was new. I was more thinking about the all male dance Trump did with leaders - and wondered how that would go with a woman President. Just thoughts. I have a long drive to drop my daughter off at daycare. I get things pop up in my head.

SFC (Join to see) - No problem, We both know its not new, that is an interesting question You have, I don't know the answer to what would be proper in that situation. I can recall some leaders asking about things first if it might offend then proceeding from there. That demonstrates a respect for them and you concern not to do anything they may find offensive which usually they aren't. It doesn't hurt to be certain first.

I hope we get to see what happens someday - with the right woman though. Hopefully that woman runs someday.

When did that happen? I just looked up when he met the Saudi King and I didn't see the king bow to Trump at all. I did see Trump curtsy to him after he got that medal. I don't think he bowed - he was getting that medal but after he got the medal, he did a slight curtsy.

I just watched video when he got off the plane and met the Saudi king at his palace and no one bowed to anyone. The guy is completely hunched over. But I didn't see any bowing either time he met the king.
