I would have probably become a single mother, depressed and living below the poverty line. I “chose the path less traveled by and that has made all the difference” -Robert Frost

I probably would have stayed in the tech sector, got a job with one of the 'Big Tech' firms, bounced back and forth and up advancing my career, captured by the group think in the organizations and would now be one of those individuals prominently featured in the 'Twitter Files'.

If you never joined the military, where do you think you'd be right now? | RallyPoint
I was working at Safeway in the produce dept when I enlisted. I wanted to be a cop, but I would've needed at least a two year degree to be considered...so maybe a cop. When I went home on leave after my first deployment, a lot of my boys were locked up...or maybe I'd be locked up. I'm in a much better place....

Growing up I always dreamed of being either a cowboy or a soldier. In my teens I left home and worked cattle ranches in the northwest. After a few years I came to realize there would never be much money doing that, just a lot of hard dirty work, so I went for my 2nd choice. But I never lost my love for horses, so after I retired I started a horse boarding business and ran that for about 15 years along with working at, and then owning, a gun/saddle & tack store.
Now I just enjoy my memories and travel some.
I always tried to follow the advice of Yogi Berria:
"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

Have you watched Yellowstone? Plenty of parts to turn people off but the ranch life and Montana views make it fun.

MAJ Byron Oyler - There were some fun, great moments, but mostly, as I posted above, it was hard, dirty, dangerous work with very little future for the working cowboy. Most ranches today are either inherited or are owned by corporations.
By the way, one of the places I worked as a cowboy was outside Stevensville, MT. That is about 20 miles north of Darby, where the "Dutton Ranch" is filmed. Great scenery, true but a young (at the time) working man can't eat scenery. lol. .

MSG Stan Hutchison - I find it more interesting over the years what is a hobby and what is work. The cowboy life looks like fun, something that was never in my path to do for a living and a stark change to my climate controlled work life that has seen babies taken to the morgue and blown up children. I have a wealthy friend that grew his money owning a heavy equipment company and in his early 60s sold it to breed cattle. He also worked in a climate controlled environment.

Never really an option. I knew from the start I wanted to serve, because I was privileged to be born in the best country in the world and needed to do my fair share, to give back for be so blessed

I felt the same way. My dad lost his family and wealth to the communists. Eventually made to Germany and fought in WW2. He always wanted to be an American. It was my duty to serve a term in the military so that I could give back. Served my hitch and tried being a civilian. Didn’t work so I went back and made the military a career.

MSgt James Parker With the way my life was heading, I probably would have done time in prison. At that point who knows but I sure wouldn't be the person I am because of my time in the Corps. It put me on the straight and narrow, no doubt.

Oh, I suspect I would be a retired nuclear astrophysicist who once played football and won ten Super Bowl rings. In retirement, I'd be an undersea explorer with Woods Hole Oceanographic Society seeking to find the lost Atlantis. But I gave that all up to join the U.S. Navy so I could sail the oceans and find out how deathly miserable it feels to be seasick!!!
