In terms of career coaching, or more specifically, as Veterans, how do you personally feel about taking assessments, and taking tests?

I think this is a double edged sword. I feel that the idea for these assessment tests help place an individual in the right job within the company when used properly. It can also be used to weed people, not just veterans, out of the company all together.

I was in civilian management and been through HRs contracted pscho babble assessment centers. They have a purpose in EEOC compliance. It is to quantify qualitative measures.

Thank you for the input. As one Veteran remarked earlier, I think we can tend to take offense to the implication that civilian employers don't have enough confidence in our training, or experience, and how both directly relate their vacant positions. Obviously, in some cases, it's a matter of legal compliance, and regulatory statutes, e.g., health care professional licenses, etc.

The military does the same type testing for recruits, bandsmen, WO Canidates, Cadets, and direct commission officers.

The tests are only as valuable as the skill tested is directly related to specific job tasks/subtasks that the veteran will be expected to routinely perform.

If we're referring to employment related assessments, I say bring it. Took a two hour test to make the hiring list for the city here, pain in the rear test, but as I looked at the questions, I saw that they really were valid for the job.

What kind of tests and for what purpose? If it for unit readiness I see no problems. The problem is that too many tests are neither reliable nor valid and do not assess what they should.

GySgt Bryan A. McGown "Gunny" great questi OK n my initial answer is I would be offended however, I do understand the purpose. Hopefully, it is not to streamline Veterans. I am currently working on my next career and am ready for the test, as it is.
