I checked my iPerms the other day and there was a PCS award form in there all approved and everything. However I never PCS'd because my extension went through. I was wondering if it was still valid.

If the award was approved and orders cut (which would have to happen for it to be in iPerms) then the award is valid.

The army does not give awards for PCSing, the award is given for the actions or accomplishments stated in the recommendation, the unit just uses PCS as the trigger to notice that the soldier accomplished something worthy of an award. The award recommendation and citation probably talk about something like 'exceptionally meritorious service from [date you arrived] to [date they thought you were leaving]' -- but it is that exceptionally meritorious service that got you the award, not the fact that you were leaving.

I'm guessing that your PCS award was an AAM or possibly an ARCOM, but whatever award was approved and posted in your records that's the award you have. It is technically possible for a unit to request that an award be revoked but that wouldn't apply in this situation.

On the other hand, don't expect the unit to recommend you for another award when you do PCS. They certainly could, but probably won't unless you do something really noteworthy or if they forgot they already gave you an award.

If you have a signed 638 with an Order # and an Award cert with an Order number that matches.....you're good.

Did the award form have the term "PCS" on it? If orders were cut, then it's valid.
