I think it offensive to say that any country is criticized for using its own name so as not to offend liberals and Muslim Terrorists. What is your take? Are we too sensitive about too many things?

Note: I do not care if other countries on different on other continents are American too! Re: Central America, South America. etc.

SSgt (Join to see), of course it is not offensive to me. This PC world is out of control. I won't be using the UNH Bias-Free Language Guide either.

I believe that they had something that could be deemed as offensive to most Americans, but they may have removed it. I've scoured their site and not found a Bias Free Language Guide. I'm sure once the offense raised it's viral head, the school was inundated with calls and it quietly disappeared. Let's hope that every time we see this type of backward thinking it makes it to the people willing to stand up for the country.

Unbelievably silly, wasteful of funds to produce it and offensive to Americans. What the hell are these people thinking?

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the ones who died
Who gave that right to me

This is Ground Zero of political correctness - some liberal college campus (redundant, I know, describing a college as liberral) decided that "American" is problematic. I'll tell you what's problematic: That they would say that. For goodness sakes!

I find those articles to be offensive (I especially like the part which says that complimenting someone can have the opposite effect). Is it possible to be offended by political correctness?

People use to take pride in being an American, what happened to that?  And to say that you can't call something in the USA "American" is just straight up retarded.  It makes me want to cry seeing some of the dumb stuff coming out of colleges and universities today.

Offensive? I don't think so. I take pride in what the collective America stands for regardless of political party. Do we make mistakes - sure. But as this country and political system shifts from one side to the other in the short term, we generally end up well in the long term. It may be perceived that we stick our noses into issues that don't concern us (no national interests maybe), but as the saying goes - If not us, then who? If not now, then when? When something not so good happens in the world, its gets people's attention when they see a US carrier off the coast, either in a humanitarian role or otherwise. So, do we have the obligation to respond only because we are the only ones who can? And if we don't respond and any innocent people die, are we guilty of neglect? I'm not saying there are clear answers to these questions, but its worth thinking about........
