MAJ Ron Peery - Since the South African government has not actually seized any land or businesses to date, no, I'm not concerned about it. Perhaps you have confused South Africa with Zimbabwe, where land was seized and redistributed.

For those who are unaware, back in 2018, Tucker Carlson claimed that seizures had begun, and that whites were being killed (neither was true); and then Trump tweeted his "support" for the whites.

The SA Constitution states: "No one may be deprived of property except in terms of law of general application, and no law may permit arbitrary deprivation of property." To do any redistribution, that provision of the constitution would have to be changed. Next, it would be a killer politically, as only 14% of the SA population favor a Zimbabwe style seizure & redistribution. As of October of 2020, they are still discussing how to go about it, and how to compensate owners.

And as of right now, yes, the South African constitution is far more progressive than ours.

Capt Gregory Prickett - You could drive a train through the loopholes in their "Bill of Rights." The whole thing reads a lot like the old USSR constitution. But "progressive" often means Marxist. I would not take an oath to preserve, protect, and defend a such a constitution. And no, I'm not confusing it with the fiasco in Zimbabwe. But I believe that's how it will end up.

MAJ Ron Peery - Oh? Please specific what "loopholes" you are talking about, so that we can compare them with both the USSR constitution and our constitution. And your statement about "'progressive' often means Marxist" is about as accurate as saying "religious right" often means white supremacist. Both statements are BS, and neither add to the conversation.

Careful. Using words like "progressive" will alienate those on the right.

None that I know of. Many countries have modeled their constitutions after ours. Most who have have dropped the 2nd Amendment completely.

Actually only a very few are modeled after ours, most use a parliamentary system as it allows more participation.
