Please provide a copy of the article you are citing. I read one early today in the LA Times that said a military coup could not succeed and made comparisons with the recent coup attempt in Turkey. I did not see one that called for a coup, in the event of a Trump victory.

When I was a young 2LT , my BDE C.O. gave me 15 minutes to scrap a political bumper sticker off my car ( I think it was in support of a local school levy) because "US Army officers don't HAVE political opinions .That's why we don't have coups every other week like some G--D----- banana republic !"

While I absolutely agree with you BDE CO, he exceeded the limits of his authority.

DOD DIRECTIVE, NUMBER 1344.10 Dtd February 19, 2008 4.1.1. A member of the Armed Forces on active duty may: Subparagraph 8. Display a political bumper sticker on the member’s private vehicle.

Political posturing to garner support behind Hillary Clinton ahead of the general election. While I do not agree with a hypothetical being used against an individual, it is free speech and it is being employed by both parties. Basically it is a metaphorical call to arms to ensure Trump doesn't get voted in because "he could cause a coup". Very Very unlikely to happen. All I can say is research the candidates and choose based upon how you feel.

LA Times is a news paper, are you reporting on an opinion piece or a report, either one is Free Speech, because Treason is acts against the USA, and Trump is not the USA.

Treasonous to even suggest removing the President by force of arms

MSG (Join to see) - As for the UN, my personal opinion, based on nothing more than how I feel, they have no business ever setting foot on US soil. Any UN troop that shows up in this country trying to impose any rules on US should be dispatched quickly and violently. Any incursion by a foreign military into the US should be handled as an act of war. We can take care of our own business.

SPC Donald Moore - Your commander wants to machine gun hundreds of civilian captives, he issues the order and the soldiers refuse to comply. The commander then orders that those who refused to fire be added to the group of civilian captives and orders you to open fire on them. You can refuse to comply and hope no one is foolish enough to follow illegal orders or that the commander doesn't simply do it himself... or you can remove the commander from authority and place him under arrest. I would hope I had the courage to do the latter. If the nation were under martial law and our commander in chief were issuing equally illegal orders, I would hope that our military leaders had that same courage.

SSG (Join to see) - Even if the President is issuing illegal orders, there is an appropriate authority and a legal way to go about things. Revolt and armed insurrection is not the way to go.. You would end up with a very destructive war between the two factions. We have seen it in our own country. How many died in the "Civil War"? Seriously, how much worse do you think it would be with the more efficient weapons of today? If you had one group of military that supported the president and another group that wanted to remove him and it was battle royal on our own land.
I am not saying that a bad president should not be removed. I am saying it is not a job for the military. If you think it is, how about finding it in the regulations or laws that govern the military? Where, exactly, is it stated that the military can arrest the president?

A little-noticed difference In the Oath of Allegiance given to enlisted and officers is that enlisted swear to obey the POTUS and the Constitution, while officers only swear to the Constitution. This was to prevent a usurper from taking control of the country. So, although the action might be legal, it is absolutely anathema for an officer to disobey our civilian elected "controllers". The PEOPLE rule this country by their ballot.......like the results or not.

Let's set aside for the moment the fact that the general election hasn't even taken place yet. It is treasonous speech. Unfortunately, it's likely to be defended by the courts as free speech.

Free speech for now, but personally I find it a little ridiculous how we're already talking about overthrowing someone who hasn't even been elected yet...

I'm a firm believer that no one with any common sense actually reads the LA Times.
