Some of the first women serving on submarines have been filmed while in the dressing area and showering over the past year. The Navy is still investigating the case and not many details have been released. The incident took place on USS Wyoming (Gold Crew).

So far the perpetrator has only been identified as a second class petty officer (E-5) who works at the Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay, GA.

There were at least three female officer victims. More details below in the Navy Times article.

Bloody Damn Hell! That is not a good start to a Program already under a Microscope. I know we are sailors and already have a bad rap but Damn It. Grow the Hell up. Did we learn nothing from Tailhook and everything from there till now!

MCPO Treants, you are correct. I have never seen the showers on a sub. It was only the military regs that stopped gays from serving openly, not from serving at all. That is my point. With the changes today let it all go coed. We had to share small tents sleeping both men and women all along. There was no get up out of the rack and leave so I can change. We just did what circumstances put us into.

I remember the massive fallout from Tailhook that shook up the Navy. Most of us were NOT Aviators, yet we paid for it in extra training and lost time from missions. Yes, it changed some attitudes at the time, but I know the Aviation Community, still laughed it off as not really applicable to them. However the Surface Navy did take the lessons to heart at the time. Some of the Aviation Community did as I can verify since they caught me and made me go to an Aviation Command for my Twilight Tour (Brown Shoes, Flight Jacket and all).

When the Fall-Out with the Mandatory, Stand-Down Training I was Master at Arms to COMSPAWARSYSCOM Washington DC an Aide de Camp to Maggie Turner first Female Black Capt in the Computer/Telecommunications Community. Mostly Female Command needless to say the Sitting Beside Capt Turner being lectured too on the evils of Sexual Harassment was kinda odd.

I can't believe that with all this talk and action towards sexual equality for military skills, and all the lashings that the Navy has taken for some major events in the past 15 years (Tailhook,the recent Enterprise commander and raunchy videos), the this event has occurred.

I hope this does not light a fire under the "women serving in xxx roles" argument.

Unfortunately, 1SG (Join to see) there are children in the Navy just like other services. As I have said elsewhere, it takes MEN to step up and make changes really happen. Sometimes an incident like this may be needed to make men really come forward and say that enough is really enough, we are friggin professionals. Lets get the job done.

This is one of those top reasons why all services are ensuring sexual harassment and sexual assault response and prevention. This is embarrassing, it fosters a lack of trust between genders, and it weakens our readiness levels. What a shame...

Yes sadly, it has been happening since then, nothing will change until everyone wearing the rank learns that they have responsibilities, and they have to be accountable, as well as hold others accountable. This includes the unwanted or in some cases the wanted harassment depending on the personnel attitude on it. In all cases it is wrong, and having one accepting, sends out the total wrong message that it is okay. What you do off duty, that is up to you, you are an adult. On duty, be professional.

PV2 Abbott Shaull, thank you for sharing your feedback! I agree that accountability is badly required at all levels to prevent acts similar to these. Also consider this: what some people do off duty will bleed over into the professional requirements of being on duty. Trust me: I know what you mean. Those of us who are responsible don't have that problem. The personnel that are standing on the field grade officer's "carpet" every few weeks or few months are the ones who don't get it. That's why we are reminded that we are Soldiers: 24/7/365 - so that personal responsibility is implied and integrated into the off-duty activities.

Yes, I get that too SSG Leonard J Walker. There is thin line. Yes I have seen those troops who are either in front of the Top or the Commander Desk every few weeks due to their issues. I not going to excuse to these troops entirely, because we both know they have to take responsibility for themselves sometimes. Yet, I have seen firsthand, where Staff Sergeants and Sergeants, serving as Squad Leaders and Team Leaders in the 82nd Airborne Division in a Rifle Company. Who wouldn't take the time, to help counsel their troops, sat there and degraded them in front of anyone who was walking by, because they "Wouldn't suck it up, and carry on!". When you are dealing with people who are 18, 19, and 20 they need aren't always as mature as person who is 22-26, who has time in the military, and in the Division such as the 82nd and else where. So I am sure with the Army deployment slowing down, there even greater proportion of NCOs, who are positions, that haven't had the time in, to have the answers, for effective counselling. From what I have seen on here in other threads, there are plenty of E-5s, E-6s, and company level Officers who have known only relax rule and regulations, and the Army lost a lot of the ole, "You are NCO/Officer, you have problem, fix it!", attitude. Or if they can't solve themselves because of lack of knowledge, they can go ask someone with in their command to ask question, use google or Bing to get answer. Don't use social media to complain or express you how you disagree with it. You are member of the someone Chain of Command. Being such, on Social Media you can't control who actually see it, if Private Joe Smoe sees it, and he in your command. He sees you disagreeing with something, and then you come along to correct him on the same subject. How serious is Private Joe Smoe going to be listen to you? Can you see where and why Private Joe Smoe will be on the "Carpet" again, and this time, not entirely his fault. Some of the responsibility lays in the person in his Chain of Command for posting what they did. They place the insulating doubt in his mind that his Chain of Command didn't believe in it, so he shouldn't either. So like the British SAS have a saying remember when you doing finger poking, "There are three more pointing back at you.", because lot of the time when you have repeated offenders. Sometimes it is not so much the troop, but the conflicting messages that the Chain of Command are giving him/her.

I saw this coming; i dont condone what happen i hope the Sailors involved need to be fried. It is sad that who ever involved thought this was okay and they could get away with it. It is things like this that make us look real bad in and feeds the bad image monster. We dont need that.

Being much smaller community, means it that much harder to get them out of that old boys will be boys mentality. They have resisted because they relied on false arguments that have been used by every Branch for many years. Especially the Combat Arms of the Army and Marine Corps. With the Submarine Service everyone brought into it largely, because of the compact size of a Submarine compared to Surface Fleet. The Air Force and Aviation in the Navy has been integrated for several years. It hasn't affected their status or effectiveness since. It takes the unit Command on down as well as their support Chain of Command, to make something work or not to work.

Very well said PV2 Abbott Shaull. I was guilty when they said that they were looking to integrate women on subs. But it was not because i did not think they could do the job. It was because of stuff like this. I saw it coming but i was hopping at the same time that they would be smarter then this and a little more mature too.

To be honest PO2 Corey Ferretti, I would count myself in the same boat about women in the Infantry, for similar reason. I do honestly believe they can do the job and their will be no lack of capabilities because they are in the units. Yet, it is bullshit like this cause by a few bad apples, and rest of the old cultural things that Chain of Command will never step up and truly change until we have a number of women in command positions to force it. It is this that will erode the capability of the unit to operate effective downrange if called upon because a lack of trust.

This just really upsets me, for many reasons. I can’t help but wonder what the filming individual was thinking during the SHARP classes. To me this is a Sexual Harassment/Assault case among other ways charges could be applied. I hope they stack the charges so deep against this deviant that it takes a lifetime to crawl out from underneath them.

To the victims, I hope you find trust again.

This is sad! As a female it is disrespectful. I know the military no longer has the "Don't ask don't tell" policy which either way doesn't bother me. As long as someone can do their job and this not be an issue. But this harassment doesn't just happen with the opposite sex! I have reported for my female juniors of feeling uncomfortable from other female sailors to higher people and it got squashed! The people that did this should be punished and processed out but in today's Navy there doesn't seem to be discipline that there was back when I first join! Sad that we are defending this country as military but can't respect each other! Should be one team one fight.

PO2 (Join to see) I totally agree that this is disrespectful, but I am more concerned with your other point. If you reported this and it was "squashed" then you need to take it higher. Follow your chain as long as it works, but there are other means available for reporting if the chain fails you or your Sailors, use them.

When I said it was squashed, our female Senior Chief and another female chief called us all together and talked to everyone. After that, there was not an issue with it. I am not the type of person to sit and let some of these things happen. I had a male PO1 make a comment to me and I turned him into the COC because he held the CMEO title. I didn't think someone should be in that position if he made commands like what he did to me.
