I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed today and came across something that just made my head spin. After the Confederate flag was removed from the state house lawn in Columbia, SC, a new target has been acquired. Apparently, one chapter wants to force a state high school to change its name from the current moniker of Rebels.
Seriously?
This is what happens when the overly sensitive gain a victory. They're hell bent on changing anything else that comes across as remotely offensive. In this particular case, the Rebels name harken back to the Confederate army and the Civil War.
Here is my argument in support of Byrnes High School.
The nickname in no way encourages hate, racism or any idea of the like. People are looking too much into this. After all, wasn't it a bunch of rebels that helped pave the wave for our independence? Instead, this group of idiots wants to point at the negative aspect of being a rebel; one that went to war against the government, divided the nation and saw families torn apart.
A rebellion can go against any kind of established order. It's not isolated to the idea of hatred or racism. There is a petition circulating which is enclosed.

What are your thoughts? Are the PC police going to far?

It's a funny thing about our great nation, if someone, somewhere takes offense to something, then that thing has to be changed or done away with....Freedom of Speech be damned. FB is another example of stupidity run amuck.... people get offended or take offense to a posting showing or supporting the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia and FB steps in, but a page where a certain Afrikan group issues a Wipe your ass with the American Flag challenge or posts of people stomping/walking on the American Flag are allowed to be no matter the number of times that it get reported as racist/hate mongering. Common sense and majority rule have been replaced by "It offends me it must go, even though I am in the minority!" My son showed me the post I referred to and asked me "Is this what I joined the Army to defend?!" My response to him was simply "No one joined the Army to defend that!!"

PC run amok. There is no end to the silliness once one starts down that path.

SCPO (Join to see)
I would respectfully suggest, Cap, that it changed from silly to serious a long time ago. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it becomes "deadly" serious someday, and sooner than we imagine.

Here's my thoughts. If we're going to proceed with erasing history of the southern states, which the undeducated crowd would call "racist slave owning bigots", then along with that erasure should come the erasing of the history of slavery itself! And therefore, if that is the goal, then we should eliminate all programs designed to give the "persecuted" a leg up in society. Equal opportunity programs should be canned, since none of this stuff will have ever happened, right? Erasing history doesn't just apply to one side of it. If I can't have a confederate flag to celebrate my southern heritage, then others should not be entitled to programs that give them a leg up in society. I'm not a racist by any means, but this sh*t is getting annoyingly out of hand.

Every person, everywhere, responsible for the removal of the CBF in South Carolina passed "too far" on the PC meter years ago. However, American society might as well be on the drawing board for a trip to Mars. This PC journey we've been on for years feels like it just started yesterday!!!
