I think that's an underestimation. If not waging total war (such as WWII), then to change the culture of people who are sworn enemies would take more than a generation.

I agree LTC Yinon Weiss. We can't go into another war and only commit halfway. I cannot even say that it's an underestimate, I almost have to say it's unachievable.

SPC (Join to see) - its time to commit all that we have got. Because if we play Pitty Patt ISIS will only continue to grow. They have taken some hits. But they come back even stronger each time.

We will always be vulnerable to homegrown extremists... I don't think it likely that Islamic extremists will disappear 10-20 years, however it is possible that the worst of the worst are calling themselves something else by that time. That said, I don't believe we have any business going to war with ISIL. They are a problem that should be dealt with my Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey. Not the United States.

SPC Andrew Griffin I believe that I will still be around in 20 years, maybe even 30 years and I can tell you will be reading about another terrorist attack 30 years from now. This enemy we have been fighting now for most the better part of 20 or 30 years now has generations of haters that will keep coming and keep coming until we can truly find a way of changing their hatred for Infidels. I just don't see it happening in the next 30 years unless someone really get serious or we are attacked in such a horrific manner it wakes up the sleeping giant again.

I want to like your Post but the system is telling me I am out of LIKES for today! I exceeded my 75! But I would like to say Sir that what you wrote has been my thinking. Not only my thinking but also my Fear. The Latter part of your is what is creating my concern. Because I believe we will grow COMPLACENT! Which we always do and it will take something HORRIFIC before we get serious.

Well as much as it sucks that we will be involved in this fight for so long, we will continue to do our duty. My Son, a young 1LT, has his work cut out for him.

We have been fighting terrorists for a long time. Most of us knew nothing about it. When ADA had the big warheads we were constantly on the pointy end. The Jihadist did not get involved much till 1980s. This will be a long war. These folks believe in what they are doing and that makes them very dangerious. Who knows what has come thru our open borders

They are an existential threat to the Nation. But with our current leadership we'll destroy and continue to degrade ourselves from the inside 1st.
