Had a commo specialist when I was an company XO secure his SKL (no crypto) in his sleeping system. 1SG found it and secured it. My HQ PSG found out and nearly had a heart attack. I found out and almost lost it. After talking with the HQ PSG, 1SG, and CO, I yelled at him for five or so minutes. Since I wasn't the yelling type, it hit home. Threat of prison for losing something that holds crypto had him on the verge of tears, and he had to search the entire assembly area all night until he found it. I demanded to know why he had his rifle but not his SKL but never gave him the chance to even answer, not that I'm sure he would've been able to. My HQ PSG was trying to keep from laughing while I was yelling. He learned his lesson, but he had the SKL 550 corded to him all summer long. And the rest of the company found out that I had been the one yelling and quickly learned not to lose things or get on my bad side.

Good advice for the quiet leaders: pick your one and only time you need to yell; you'll only have to do it once.

Validation AT they made the guys who couldn't get along with each other carry around a cinder block. They had to take turns with it like a custody agreement.

During my basic training. We had to guys that couldn't get along. Well after one of them wrapped the other to his bunk with 5 50 cord. Making him miss morning formation. The drill Sargents made them perminent battle buddies, and tied them together with 5 50 cord for the remaining 8 weeks of basic training. They became the best of friends.

My drills made me and another guy fight using modern Army combative of course, no punching, after he and I got into a screaming match. Then after that we ran a lap holding hands. Became friends during that lap. We laughed the whole time!

When I was in basic the Sr. DI had a rubber duck M-60 he called his bitch. It must have been made of lead; who ever got on his "list" had to carry the damn thing aroud all day.

In '92, my 1SG gave me corrective action for constantly walking across the grass in front of orderly room. The last time he caught me, he gave me a pair of scissors and I had to cut the grass. To this day I never cut across grass, I always take the walkway.

So this one time, about 8 years ago, we were in the "paperwork" phase of basic, filling out all of our in processing stuff in the barracks. I was standing by the fire guard desk when the door behind me flies open. A drill sergeant with no top and no campaign hat on comes barreling into the barracks. Since he scared the crap out of me, and I thought he was just another soldier I turned around and said, "Jesus F&$@!?& Christ guy, you scared the S*** out of me!" He looked at me and replied " WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?" And because I'm an idiot and hadn't caught on, I said to him, "I SAID, Jesus F****** Christ guy, you SCARED THE S*** out of me!!!" Needless to say, he had me duck walking around the barracks screaming at the top of my lungs "I'm quack quack the duck and I'm all F****D up!" He said to do this till he came back. About 4 hours later, with no voice or ability to move my legs anymore, my drill sergeant has someone go get this evil bastard to come to our barracks. When he arrived, and saw that I was still doing this, I was then told that I was either the "Dumbest mother F****r that has ever lived, or the most dedicated soldier he's ever seen". Apparently I was supposed to stop at some point on my own hahaha.

That was really stupid of the 1SG. Must have been courtmartialed himself to go from E-8 down to E-4.

Other than the expected butt chewing he got, he should be lucky that "rifle" is all he had to carry around.

When I was at Marine OCS, one of the guys in my platoon had a magazine in the John. He left it in there and the Sergeant Instructor found it. SI came out and asked whose it was. He fessed up and the SI returned the magazine. Then SI said he wanted a copy of it by Friday. The whole platoon had to split up the magazine and hand copy it, words, pictures the whole thing front to back. It was pretty ingenious.

Made the comment that all this fine Georgia mid summer rain sucks while in formation, so pvt. Dunny got to mop up all the rain water in the parking lot and street, and when I carried bucket to the third floor Latrine to dump the water down the drain, I got to yell out "drill sergeant, private dunny requests permission to dump this fine Georgia rain down the drain" then wait for a response while holding such said bucket chest high

Not the worst thing I ever did to someone. I found an M109A5 unsecure in the motor pool at Dona Anna Range. Had a mechanic park in front of the Flag Pole. Suffice to say my BN didn't suffer from unsecure tracks after that. One AT at Camp Roberts myself and the Sergeant Major went around taking pictures of ourselves in unsecure vehicles. Suffice to say the nightly BN meeting was entertaining.

Greets, Petty Officer Litz! I was in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps as a High School student (I ended up going through Army ROTC and became a tanker--but my Dad was Navy). Went for 3 weeks of basic training to the Naval Training Center (flew there in a C-130) in Orlando, FL (BRACed some years ago). We had our heads shaved, etc. Regular Navy recruits preferred us over high school Navy ROTC students (who did nothing but bitch). One evening, I locked my "A&B" drawers, but failed to check whether the lock was securely latched. The Master at Arms came through and when he pulled on my lock, the lock arm pulled out. I then had to bring both drawers, one at a time, to the Chief Petty Officer's office ( First Class P.O. Ackerman) at the front of the building (a long way!), dump them out (and my grandmother had given me maybe 15 or so of those little damn hotel soap bars, I had about 15 pairs of folded socks, along with other assorted items, in those drawers). I asked the Petty Officer if the socks counted as one item. He said "Hold the pair up by one individual corner." The other sock peeled off. "No," he said. So I had to carry first each drawer, then the lock, then each item, back to the barracks one at a time, taking off my shoes at the door each time so as not to scuff the deck. Finished after 3.5 hours, well after lights out. Royally sucked! But, damn me if I EVER failed to make sure my lock was secure after that--and I stayed in touch with Ackerman for nearly 15 years after that experience.
