What article from your military career would you put in the RallyPoint time capsule? TA-50, war trophies, souvenirs, etc. I'm starting with a dehydrated pork patty from the old dark brown MRE's. In 50 years, it will taste the same.

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca my theory is that there is really only one fruit cake, and since no one eats it, it is passed around from person to person. lol

Easy...PT belt. That way the people of the future will know how their ancestors survived for so long.

Right on, SFC(P) (Join to see), imagine what the 6 o'clock news would say, "Reflective belt turned deadly for one sailor hearing excessive SSG Robert Burns comments"

I think you have that headline wrong:

"Reflective belt saves sailor who attempted suicide. Belt given Medal of Honor, sailor being monitored."

Poor choice SFC Mark Merino. MREs DO go bad after a while. How would I know this? Because I have had the misfortune of discovering this delicious factoid myself.
A couple of years ago, I was given a box of brown MREs. They had been in a connex. There was no expiration date on it. (Where is the expiration date on an MRE?) They could have been sitting in that connex for a decade, but what the hell. It's an MRE. I thought they were like, the food version of Methuselah.
We got them home and my kids dove into the box. MREs, to the average kiddo, is like a McDonald's Happy Meal. Mine viewed the MRE heater as the "prize". (The first clue that something was amiss was when I found four opened and barely eaten packs of candy in the trash.)
Have you ever seen the Family Guy episode "8 Simple Rules for Buying My Teenage Daughter"?
If you haven't seen the vomit scene, don't. Just take my word for it and encapsulate something else.

When I was in WLC, during our field problem, I opened my MRE, and everything was covered in mold. So yea they do go bad, and I did throw up, just from the smell.

Being a Food Inspector, I do happen to have some expertise in this area. Yes, Operation Rations have expiration dates, you will find them on the outside of the box. They also have a little red sticker, called a Time Temperature Indicator (TTI) that helps us determine whether they were temperature abused. You can also use the link below to get all the information about Operational Rations you want (same information we use to inspect them).

https://www.troopsupport.dla.mil/
Go to 'Supply Chains', then 'Subsistence', then Operational Rations.
