We had a guy in our SERE class who was able to put himself in a deep meditative state during sleep deprivation and, consequently, in the box. Drove the cadre nuts. Wasn't exactly yoga but it was effective.

That is very interesting..there really is something to this...i am just learning it..adapting it...and if I would of known this a long time ago....could of would of should of...but the typical american alpha male will not see use in something that did not see in a GNC Magazine full of supplements their trying to sell you for profit...or what they see in military manuals created without the idea of self healing........full flexibility....full range of motion...for the days when you will one day...be a veteran looking back on the young man who thought he was a unbreakable iron galvanized machine...but the reality is that iron galvanized machine could be made even more amazing by introducing more lubricant..more range of motion...more flexibilty...making it an even more amazing warrior machine...

It's an absurd notion, PO3 Aaron Hassay. I'm assuming you meant it as a joke.

Sir...My jokes are serious to some...I am thinking here like David vrs Goliath....It as absurd as a Trojan Horse.....Not Flexible Muscle Ego Man Vrs Calm Yoga Flexible yoga man ...in the field in an urban setting.......I mean I think some of the best fighters can touch their toes for at least 5 minutes, palms to ground, relax, full extension..AWEEEE...relax breathe......feel the tension release from you as you say Awweee....it is quite comforting...then the real tough guy..who can not do that...and is just all muscle...will get chocked out.....or arm broken..or leg snapped...or ankle locked..because in hand to hand combat...he lost his weapon...and I went full gumby on tense huffy puffy ego muscle man..in full relaxed calm 10th degree black belt yoga warrior abilities...got out of his muscle man lock of death...and reversed...and he could not compete with the dexterity..and limberness....some ground and pound...and a few degrees of pressure on his joints...went pop...and the muscle man was tapping...but in real battle...i suppose there would be some biting flesh off....eye gouging...and also vulcan death grips...but if you add all that with flexibilty then you are really on to something..and flexiblity also helps with the lady of your life...also...so you are really really really the new best warrior in so many ways...it should be DOD mandatory...

PO3 Aaron Hassay I don't think it should be part of SFAS or the Q course but last time I was in Afghanistan I did yoga once a week and there were always two or three operators in the class. A lot of them know that yoga is a powerful exercise both mentally and physically.

CSM (Join to see) - Thanks for your Service bud. I salute you.
I will say this. I am glad you guys are finding this now. Crap when I served I never even heard of PTSD. PTS What I might say back in the day. Today, 2016, I really do believe this yoga, inversion(hanging upside down anti-gravity joint decompression) flexibility, stretching, self calming, regrouping, meditative stuff is the new unexplored area that will make the warrior of today, in every arena of combat, and tomorrow more complete, able to melt stress away, able not to react to stress in stunned way, able to see things as you slow them down in your mind, able to think more complex when dealing with stress, more centered, and able to survive more, and survive longer. I just found it after beating myself up for most my adult life staring 18 enlisting, and I have recently been able to avoid back surgery, that seemed unavoidable, and that is just the start of it. Every warrior needs self therapy, on a daily basis. It is as if there should be a new term for it. Warrior Yoga might bridge the gap in the mind between what a man thinks a man does and what a wise man does that is best.
