Should we bring back the Pledge of Allegiance? I remember as I went through Grade School we use to say this every morning and it gave me a sense of pride and purpose each day! Are the youth of today missing this and will they every understand what it truly means?

Your thoughts and comments are welcome?

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Our Pledge of Allegiance as we know it is fast becoming a thing of the past. Kids used to say the Pledge of Allegiance along with a prayer before starting the day’s activities.

Below you will see the very touching recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance as told by Red Skelton. They Pledge as we should still teach our children.

Also listed is the “Global Earth Day Pledge” that our children are learning today. Again this is Global. Everything will go global in the “End Times”. This is just another way to ease everyone into it. Be Prepared. It is coming.

On January 14, 1969, Red Skelton touched the hearts of millions of Americans with his "Pledge Of Allegiance", in which he explained the meaning of each and every word. Red Skelton's recitation of the "Pledge of Allegiance" was twice read into the Congressional Record of the United States and received numerous awards.

RED SKELTON: "I remember this one teacher. To me, he was the greatest teacher, a real sage of my time. He had such wisdom. We were all reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance and he walked over. Mr. Lasswell was his name... He said": "I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge Of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word:

I

Me; an individual; a committee of one.

Pledge

Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.

Allegiance

My love and my devotion.

To the Flag

Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.

of the United

That means that we have all come together.

States

Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.

And to the Republic

Republic -- a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.

For which it stands

One Nation

One Nation -- meaning, so blessed by God.

Indivisible

Incapable of being divided.

With Liberty

Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.

And Justice

The principle, or quality, of dealing fairly with others.

For All

For All -- which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine. And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Some day maybe they will learn the meanings and the Reasons for the Pledge and the back ground...

Saying the Pledge or being God-fearing makes one neither more nor less industrious.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and to the Great Law. (look it up) I have sworn a life long oath to defend the Constitution of the United States which was based on the Great Law. I owe no loyalty to any one person, in or out of the White House. I have sworn a lifelong oath to the US Navy Hospital Corps creed and that of the Fleet Marine Force.

Absolutely not. It's a country, not a cult. Idolatry and rhythmic chants of obeisance have no place in an educational setting or institution. Blind faith in anything never leads to good. We should be teaching critical thinking, not the reverse...

PO2 David Dunlap - Please do not confuse nationalism and patriotism. Blindly swearing oaths to flags and banners, and worshiping your country are NOT patriotism. That is zealotry, nothing more.. Patriotism is not forcing people to stand and swear allegiance. The country owes it's allegiance to it's people, not the reverse. A country worthy of respect does not have to force it... It earns it day by day in it's action, policies and endeavors.
And no, I did not take an oath of allegiance to the country. None of us did. We took an oath to support and defend the constitution. Don't confuse an oath to an ideal as opposed to an oath to an organization.

His nooily highness is the depth of the pastafarians (and I did spell that right) a gait that I believe like all others must be repeated by the laws and can be laughed at like all others by prlvate citizens at their own discretion. I fill fight for your rights to whatever you copse to belive but my right to laugh is equal protected. When any American loses a guaranteed freedom we all lose.

Of course freedom of speech still applies even when coordination and dexterity are affected by neural analgesics. It's the writing it down that causes us to consider the speech after the fact.

I was in class the day my teacher announced that the Pledge on Alliigence was being revised to include the phrase "under God" into it...
It seemed to me it was shoehorned in, and offset with commas. I didn't like it, but went along with it.
Years later I learned that it was done to show the godless communists that we were better or something.

No need to "bring it back" because it was never taken away.
Someone has been perpetrating a political hoax to stir people up.
The Pledge of Allegiance is still recited each morning in most, if not all, Public Schools across the country. 43 States, in fact, have laws that REQUIRE educators to lead their classes in the Pledge of Allegiance each morning.
You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Yes Sir I agree ! Bring it back........next time you walk down the street in one of our major cities like L.A. or Chicago, take a look at what is hanging out on the corners and at the corner stores......then let reality tell you what taking the Pledge of Allegiance out has done to our younger generation, and why we can't find enough dedicated young men and women to fill the needs of our military !!

Yes!! All students in every public school in this country and in DoD schools should say the pledge each day. It starts the school day with solemnity and a time for introspection.

I went to a DoD school from 74-78 (Berlin, Germany). We never recited the pledge. When I moved back to the states for my senior year it was done every day.

Sgt Kelli Mays Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, expressed this concept of democracy in 1801 in his First Inaugural Address. He said,

All . . . will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect and to violate would be oppression.

I was a public school teacher for over 30 years. During those years, we said the Pledge every day. Sometimes we started the day with daily announcement and it preceded the announcements. Sometimes we had activity period before lunch and it was done at that time, but we said the Pledge everyday. Only those kids with religious restrictions to pledging, such as the Jehovah Witnesses, were allowed not to participate. Even if a child had some other reason for not participating, they were required to stand and show respect for their fellow students. In our elementary school they also recite their school pledge for behaving, respecting, and doing their best everyday. Same rules apply.

Just what is wrong with Pledging? Don't love and honor your country?

PS - Why would a judge rule against this? Progressives are trying very hard to bring down the Constitution and its values. We have many students in our schools. Some students should not be there, but that is another topic. Students who are not citizens should not be made to say the Pledge. As mentioned elsewhere, the Muslims. If they are citizens and there is a religious reason that can be established as some other religions have done, then they should say the Pledge. Illegals shouldn't be here and this is not their country, so why should they say it? We can discuss those students later.

A little application of history form the "60's and '70's: prayer eliminated in schools (how did someone convince the American people that "separation of Church and State" exists in our Constitution?); the anti-war movement; elimination of the draft and pardoning of draft-dodgers.
Think these events may have had anything to do with the decline of respect for American values?
