When I was onboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), we had a division officer who loved the NY Yankees and because of that, when ever there was a game, would determine our working hours. When the Yankees would win we would get off early but when they would lose we would stay long hours. Was that legal what that DivO did, keeping us because of a baseball game?

Well, did the mission dictate the long hours or were you just sitting around? I don't see this as a legal question but more along the lines of ethics. If he's keeping late because he's pissy about the yanks losing, then maybe it's questionable.

Actually, no, we weren’t in any mission. It was always when we were in port and we were just sitting around. We did all the cleaning, maintenance, paperwork that had to be done and we were just there.

I would say it's questionable. I don't know if the Navy has something similar to the Army's inspector general which could look at it and determine if there really is a pattern.

Let's be honest sometimes officer don't let enlisted go home because they don't want to go home

Is it legal...? Yes. Is it good leadership...? No.

One of my major bitches with some young officers is that they can't give up their fraternity days, and they don't realize subordinates are not pledges/plebes.
