With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

I think they are just acting like zealous fanboys. They don't understand that what they are doing is hurtful, they never will. They are showing respect the only way they know how. They know the patches are associated with something "cool", and they want a part of that, even if it is only play-pretend. It sounds like they are the kinds of kids that would correct someone if they assumed they were military.
It sucks, I know. But they sound like they are just some kids wearing something "cool". I am sure as they outgrow their paintball days, they will also outgrow their small world views and come to understand what the patches mean. Maybe it will even become a door to further research for them. They will want to know more about the units and look it up.

That is terrible, it seems that more and more of these are popping up.

More and more are popping up everyday because these bastards are getting away with it. They need to be arrested and prosecuted. They also need a good ass kicking! Then maybe, just maybe, they'll get the message?

Is that the Command PFC rank? *heheehehee* that's the first time I've seen it! Awesome!

Other than the long list of items already noted, I spotted the beret pretty quickly. It doesn't look like its been properly fitted to me. It may just be the quality of the photo, but it looks too thick (unshaven) and the band has a pretty serious bend in it. I know creases happen when you fold it up, but that looks like he has sat on it.

Hmmm.... let's see... Sunglasses and toothpick, no blue disc, no unit patch, too many slashes and no overseas hashes, the beret is the wrong color, unit awards that don't need to be there, the fact that he is too young to be a CSM, wrong ribbon order, the qualification badge is off... AND what in the H, E, double hockey sticks is that pin that is shaped like a flag? Call the General! And why is he hiding the CIB with his lapel?

I never wore an ACU, but even I can see many things wrong with this uniform... I don't remember qualification badge on them (not pinned anyway), the collar is all wrong, no combat unit on the other sleeve to justify the CIB, wear a cover indoors, the uniform looks slept in, the flag in the wrong place (or is it put on wrong), and he don't even look old enough to be a SFC. I also remember you must have either velcro or pins, not both.

You can wear pins and velcro as the velcro is a part of the uniform only thing that you have to choose on is sewed on or Pin on... what photo are you talking about

30 years of hash marks kinda tipped me off, Jump wings below ribbons, the list goes on, cant the fake dip sticks go online and find the proper way to outfit the uniform if they are going to try and pull a scam.

You'd think they would, it's not that hard, either. Five minutes of research plus not trying to be warp speed Space Shuttle door gunners. If they'd claim cook or admin, who'd notice? Nope, these guys (and women, there have been a few) go for spec ops.

I prefer to handle the issue delicately. The challenge with stolen valor today is that the person who impersonates one of us, might come back and try to hurt one of us to get even for being 'called out'. As MSgt Allan Folsom pointed out, it is better to approach people in private rather than call them out in public for stolen valor.

Allan, it's like the Special Forces guys say, "Silent Professionals." We are well equipped to deal with these issues out of the glaring lights of the general public. Unfortunately, not everyone understands that handling matters like this requires a delicate touch.
