With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

Its poor taste. Its dishonest. If they wear the uniform and get a discount, no matter how small they have used it for monetary gain. That burger they got for free didn't get taxed the correct amount soooo....

I like how Guardian of Valor puts them on blast. It warms my heart know that people are being held accountable. If I said I was a doctor this and doctor that, put it on my resume and got a job - but wasn't a doctor; the world would flip.

Part of me thinks Stolen Valor recipients could be fed to the lions... oh wait it is the 21st century.

Most of the time these fakes do receive monitary values, like discounts at stores, which is theft, and also making speeches for money. True, some are just good old liars trying to impress themselves or someone else. I don't see this problem going away. For the past twenty years I have joined several websites who post these phonie people. It's still going on and the websites posting faces and names are still out there but not as many. There is nothing really can be done about it. Their there and not going away.

I truly respect your opinion and at one point may have shared it. I have a kind heart toward the weak who do not join but still claim the valor. I am a just man and though I forgive them, I break the illusion. I do what I say and others should do so. If I should catch a stolen valor, if he or she is cool I will forgive. However if which I have seen this already, a man or woman seeking to too take advantage of another I will expose them. I know some cases are sad individuals but I have met those who are truly bad individuals. People who exploit are not far from other types of exploiters. There are people who will kill another for sport. There are also those who exploit in the same way. When the story of the victim is sadder than the offender; than the offender is my target. There are sheep, there wolves, there are sheep dogs. Sheep may masquerade as a sheep dog but when the wolf masquerades as the sheep dog that is another story. I am the sheep dog and I swim among wolves any day.

The three choices were questionable, the 1st made it seem like court would be a waste of time and yet the one that would have the most impact.if he is dealt with in a court and the verdict made public ( which it would be) it would send a clear message to all that if they too choose to follow in this jack rabbits foot steps they to will be found guilty and receive not only a throat punch by the highest ranking individual of EVERY branch of service but have to COMPLETE Every branches basic and AIT. we are all adults here and can have our cake and eat it to...RIGHT?????

I typically default to personal freedom, and liberty for the individual, but... The issue of stolen valor goes beyond simply wearing a uniform that is not yours in an attempt to gain perks not intended for you. This becomes an issue of safety and symbol. There is a reason that one cannot impersonate a police officer; the police are traditionally a symbol of protection and safety (despite recent controversies). If someone seeks the assistance of a police officer, things could go very badly if that police officer is a sham. The same can be applied to military impersonation. We represent the best of our society, protectors, and a source of security. Those posing as SMs are putting that image in harms way, and that is a greater loss than any discount, or perk that may be swindled.

Understood, and perhaps not the most parallel example, but when out in uniform we still represent our branch of service, and the US Gov. In this respect we are seen as points of stability. There is a symbolism in the uniform that should be defended and upheld.

However, the National Guard can be deployed on a State level to restore order and normally work hand in hand with law enforcement and that could cause a safety issue.

I too experienced a similar situation while on leave in Houston. A panhandler who was no less than sixty, had an ACU top on with no name tapes and where the flag is supposed to be, he had 173rd Airborne's patch affixed horizontally. I rolled down my window and asked him when he served to which he replied "Iraq". When I asked him what province, he said "Kandahar..."

The light turned green quickly after that. Wish I would've pulled over and drilled him some more.

2LT Quan Dinh Kandahar, Iraq? Totally plausible! I think I served there as well. It was right next to Disney World, Afghanistan.
