With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

Well, here's another goofball. This time he went too far.

Peter Senese; phony Delta operator scamming families
According to the New York Post, this fellow, Peter Senese, pretended to be a Delta Force operator who could help them recover their kidnapped children, scamming at least one family out of tens of thousands of dollars;

His first victim, identified only as “V-1” in court papers, turned to him after the parent’s child was abducted in New York in November 2013 and taken to India.

He promised he could reunite “V-1” with the child in two weeks with the help of an “unidentified retired federal judge, unidentified teams of international lawyers” and several Delta Force members, the criminal complaint said.

Over the course of nine months, “V-1” gave Senese more than $30,000 — as well as other monthly payments of between $3,000 and $5,000 — as he led the victim on a wild-goose chase by texting them fake updates on his supposed rescue efforts in India.

“We are a go go go go go. They are to pick (Child-1) up in 11 hours. I am so extremely excited. I’m quarterbacking everything right now at my end. 17 hours into Dubai, 30 hours into New York,” Senese cruelly texted “V-1” on April 26, 2014.

According to the article, he strung them along and drained their savings. Senese was arrested on Thursday and faces 20 years in jail. I hope it was worth it for him.

Because stolen valor is just a symptom. Thanks to Sean for the link.

I had started a new discussion earlier and just got a message that because there are so many threads about Stolen Valor that mine would be merged with this one. Suits me just fine but I don't see my post anywhere so I will repost it as a new comment:

This just popped up on my Facebook feed. A man wearing a utility uniform while begging for money. While I applaud the brass of the guy demanding he take off the uniform, there is one thing about this that is worrisome. He asks the man to show him his Veteran's ID Card. I was unaware that there was such a thing myself. I wouldn't be wearing the uniform myself, especially if I was in a position that I had to ask for handouts, but I also have a Retired ID Card...since not everyone who has served has retired, I'm thinking that maybe that may have been a little too much to demand of the guy. I don't know anyone who goes around with their DD-214 in their pocket, either. I'm thinking it could be that the man was simply intimidated by the guy who was about twice his size and didn't want to get beat to a pulp. I don't know...good call in any event. People who shame the uniform need to know they are doing something highly offensive to those of us who have actually been there, even if it means legitimate people get targeted from time-to-time. I think a genuine vet would have at least attempted to reason with the guy before he took off running, though. What do you think?

I fail to see the stolen valor...... For all we know of, the uniform could've been given as a donation..... This guy could've handled the situation better...... He chased the guy...... While stolen valor disgusts me I do think see any evidence from the video that he was trying to be something he isn't

I saw that recently. I thought it was awesome. He put that guy in his place as he should have.

Was he claiming to be a veteran asking for help? Or was he merely wearing the top and bottom because he was homeless and asking for money to buy a bite a to eat? Were they sterile or was he wearing name tapes and cool guy badges?

ACU's are just clothes. They can be purchased at any army/navy surplus store. I don't understand how people get so bent out of shape about somebody wearing wore out ACU's.

I didn't watch the video. It was a waste of my time.

Picard shit! here we go again!
People see someone wearing wore out ACU pants with a wore out rock 'n roll t-shirt in Wal-Mart and they lose their damned minds and scream 'stolen valor'. That makes us look like deranged, psychotic, mentally unstable assholes.

Get over it. I lost friends in Iraq before most of todays service members were out of elementary school and I don't lose my mind over someone wearing BDU's/ACU's.

The man did say he was a vet but was not able to support his claim.

While it was extremely wrong for the homeless man to impersonate a veteran ( did he said he had junior rotc cadet stripes on?) i think he was more intimidated that the big dude was gonna rip him to shreds. He could have calmly explain that what the homeless guy was doing is illegal and he needed to take the uniform off in calm manner. Ive seen anything from 18 year olds trying to impersonate a major to a 300lbs dude with a ranger uniform on... Now them two deserve a beating. Just my 2 cents

The Spouse just pointed me to a documentary on an elaborate hoax on the 9/11 survivor community, asking my thoughts about the woman's motivation. The person involved was Alicia Esteve ("Tania") Head. The video is on both YouTube and Netflix. The title is "The Woman Who Wasn't There".

It was impossible not to think about the stolen valour discussions on RP. Our group of fraudsters have it easy, I would say: you can buy finery at MedalsOfAmerica and eMarinePX a lot quicker than you can pick up what you need to be a plausible 9/11 survivor.

SGT (Join to see), there is an existing discussion thread which is supposed to be a catch-all for stolen valor posts. Here's the link:

https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/stolen-valor--5

I think the new and improved Groups feature on RallyPoint may eliminate the need for this.

CW5 Montgomery, with all due respect, it's one thing to discuss the situation, but it's a different topic to show pictures and expose them. I believe that is more effective. The newsletter I get is about nothing but stolen valor and it really puts the hammer down on these leeches. Thank you Sir.

I'm ok with it.
If nothing else these floaters provide a nice comic relief.
I mean, really, ... sniper, sapper, ranger, seal, sf, master blaster, trash finder, trip CMB, 5xPH, SS and a BS .. all under the age of 25 ... seems legit to me!
