I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

A simple "Thank you." is enough.
I get it a lot. Of course, I don't know exactly why people tell me. [wink, wink]

It's been asked on here before...and I've seen it on other outlets. Depends on who you ask but when I've gotten the "thank you for your service" it's always an obligatory one. It's always forced - people think they have to say it. I'd rather just be left alone and this is why I do not wear my uniform off post if I can avoid it. I guess I've said "thanks..." but it's so awkward. Other professions do more and they don't get thanked. I'd rather someone go thank a teacher, go thank a firefighter, hell even a janitor before thanking me.

Wow lol funny I feel the same way. Especially how I was tricked to sign out of the military too soon and so I’m not 100% connected

I was tricked to signed out of the army and so I’m not 100%connected. Many years later and I’m still depressed about that smh. I had a goal to at least be a sergeant before I leave the service. I was only 3 month short of being a spec 4 and I was looking so forward to that but they took that opportunity away from me and left me as a PFC SMH

Because of my experience to me it feels like it is hyped and extremely overrated.

If I have time, I try to be clever and say something like "thanks for paying your taxes" but mostly people get a "uh, yeah..."
