SSG Pete Fleming, I made Army jumps and civilian skydives (200 total) and I wouldn't bungee jump with or without bungee cords!

neither would I, but then I never jumped out of a perfectly good airplane either...

Cpl Justin Goolsby - That wasn't even bungee jumping that was doing a face plant of the bridge and hoping the magnets work, otherwise that helmet would be useful in keeping your brain contained to a small area as your head impacted the ground.

Cpl Justin Goolsby - I remember the videos from when bungee jumping first started... the cords were a little long, I decided I would ever do that.

That's the thing that always gets me. When you jump out of a plane, you inspect your parachute, you make sure it's serviceable and in good working condition. But you never see people who bungee jump measuring the length of cord from the base of the ground all the way up to the jump off point. You never see someone verifying the elasticity of the cord before a jump. The rope might only be 100 meters long, but if it stretches to 150 meters and the ground is at 140 meters, that's a broken face, neck, back, and death. I've honestly never seen anyone op-check a bungee jump so I'll stay away from them.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - So they wouldn't have to look far for his braincase. Ok. Now the headgear makes sense.

I love my age. No one would think of asking me to do something like this. And I have a wife who would kill me if they did and I tried it.

notice they never showed the entire jump from enough distance to see the magnetic field capture the person. I am calling bullshit on this one

But...why did he wear headgear? If it didn't work, was the helmet really going to save him?

SSG Pete Fleming Cool, interesting, very believable! One of PVT James Strait 's characters would have the skill and confidence to execute one!

Negative, I know, I do not have the skill or training. SSG Pete Fleming At work, a fellow was rigged up and test jumped 10 feet to demonstrate a 'auto-lock' safety system for a salesman. It failed. He returned to work 6 months later!

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025 - Ouch!!! I replied to someone else, I remember seeing the early videos when bungee jumping was becoming a fad... the cords were too long, I decided, never ever... ever
