After fighting with recruiters and doctors for over a year, I was able to finally secure an infantry slot that happened to have an option 40 and a bonus attached to it. At the time it was the only infantry slot that the counselor at MEPS could pull from USAREC so i agreed to it. What advice can you offer as far as going into infantry OSUT, ranger selection, and then airborne school? As far as workout advice, mental preparedness, and anything else you can thank of. My ship date is at the end of May, Thank you in advance.

Run. Run some more. Run again. And while you're at it, get in some more running. (You get the theme right?)

Check your ego on arrival.

Listen...talk only when asked--or when the drill sergeants are out of earshot.

Be a sponge and soak in everything.

Study what you can before hand, simple things like Army rank structure, etc.; dont worry about trying to be an expert before Day 1... because you won't be, but you may be better off than others.

Learn to love the refreshing taste of water, particularly luke-warm water, because you'll drink lots of it.

Search deep inside you for the fortitude to endure.

Good luck.

Hard PT, but don't hurt yourself. Ruck runs with increasing weight. Long distance runs. Find & buy a Ranger Handbook and study it constantly. Be prepared to push yourself mentally as well. Old saying " This ain't shit! and It don't matter!"

SGM Bill Frazer You are right! Knowing when, ‘it ain’t sxxt and don’t matter’, is when a troop has started his trail to the Greater Wisdom!

Work on your upper body strength! Tall men struggle more with Pull-ups and rope climbing. Expect to be challenged in those areas. Pushups were an integral part of the Army and SOF qualifications. Practice doing proper pushups! When you ca do 50 or so, go on a maintenance program.
