We eat, sleep, and breathe in a wild chemical soup; a planet we call the Earth. We have long done terrible things to our planet, potentially affecting our quality of life and that of future generations. There is an old Native American Proverb: "We do not own the Earth. We borrow it from our grandchildren".
What are you doing to save the Earth?

I am eating as much beef flesh that I can in order to control the overproduction of methane gas that according to some say is responsible for global climate change...less bovine = less methane which equates to climate stabilization!

I would also add that it is saving the life of plants...as they scrub out carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.... ;-)

I am doing nothing we live in a small country as far as population goes so unless China, India, and Russia want to do something about the environment I don't fell like we should try to heal the whole world.

Same as CW5 Sam R. Baker, pretty much. Recycling, water/electricity conservation, minimizing trips to the extent possible, passing this along to my daughter. The great part is that most of these steps save money in the household budget as well.

Sell digital stickers and magic powers to children on their apps for insanely high prices. Once their parents are broke, they won't buy any more wasteful toys to pile up at our landfills.

Another thought, is selling kids stuff on Ebay and not placing in the landfill, not to mention all the stuff we take to Goodwill!

On the not of ebay.... I sell stuff on eBay regularly. It's a huge global market.

True story: I flipped $100.00 into apprx $2500 of Army gear and uniforms using eBay. How'd I do it? I took my $100 cash and went to estate sales over the course of four weekends. I bought up all the cheap silver and old fountain pens that I could find then sold them on eBay. I retained the capital and used the profits to purchase what I needed. It took about 9 months, but it worked.... I now live "high on the hog" gear-wise.

If anyone wants to know the specifics the PM me here.

What have I done to the Earth? The Earth does not need me to save it. Never has and never will. I may do something so foolish that it affects my ability to remain in a region, and I may also be so foolish to remain until it as an effect on the quality of my life, or even causes the end of my life, but the Earth will go on. Humans are so vain as to think that they control the Earth, and not the other way around. Yes, we do breathe a wild chemical soup but even the ‘freshest’ air we breathe is chemical soup of Nitrogen, Oxygen and water vapors, with a bunch of trace chemicals. Thinking man can destroy or save the Earth is like saying a single microbiota can save or destroy a human being.
Do not get me wrong, I am not saying destroy the air and water around us with pollution but on the same note, do not destroy your own life trying to protect something that has been here long before we came into existence and will be here long after we, and the human species, has been forgotten.

MSG Sand, make no mistake: I am not a zealot. I am skeptical about certain things but not everything. While you have some valid perceptions, so do I. For example, we have real, solid, measurable evidence that mankind has severely affected life on our planet to the point of vanishing species. What gives us the right to wipe out an entire species as we have provably done, and nearly did with buffalo? They are part of the Earth's ecosystems...the cycle of life that some people such as I believe are interconnected. Agree that many natural acts also adversely affect the Earth, and that the Earth and Nature, much like our own bodies, have amazing healing powers of regeneration. Deforestation for example, is a very real issue. Human and animal waste is another. Man can destroy the LIFE on the earth with Nuclear weapons if not pollution. A single microbiota or virus does indeed have the potential to wipe out life, as does an asteroid from space. We can rationalize inaction as a course of action, or we can work together to take the small, positive steps that we can to at least conserve resources.
The less you do, the more I must do, and I will do so.

I am a conservationist, because conservation makes sense and I am a cheapskate. I have a compost pile. I make efforts to limit trips in the car. I pick up garbage when I find it. I don't dump poisons into the water or ground. Looking at the feasibility of biking to work a day or two each week....

I don't do any of this to "save the Earth." I do not believe that I. individually or in concert with the rest of the planet's population, have any power to do so.

Recycle and water conservation, teach kids to conserve resources, no waste. That is at home obviously, but at work, I tend to voice printing concerns with regard to reviews of documents prior to print. Back when we used typewriters, the correction tape was a great invention! IBM rocked! Now with computers, folks feel they have unlimited print capability and use it with no bottom it seems. Conservation of water I learned to the nth degree in Iraq in 2003. Recycling is EASY, I learned it well at Fort Hood and Fort Rucker, seems around Fort Campbell however, the communities DO NOT offer city or county recycling.

OK---so I work at US EPA where we strive to protect human health and the environment--we also take the lead in energy efficient appliances, recycled materials, compost, and reduce reliance on chemicals and plastics. I reuse plastic water bottles many times--soap and water cleanse, and Zero Water filtered water back in to them. Have chlorine filter on shower---better for your hair, skin, septic tank...use select detergents only--biodegradable papers.

...some one sent note about recycling ex-spouse....not sure that counts.
