What are you thankful for this Armed Forces Day [2015]?

May is a month which is chock full of reminders about military service for those serving, those supporting the people who are serving and those who died while in the service of this nation.
We are living in turbulent times yet I believe we have much to be thankful for. I am thankful:
1. that our armed forces are still attracting highly qualified, conscientious, and motivated soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
2. that this nation is still generally the land of the free and more certainly the home of the brave.
3. for the privilege of serving this nation for so many years and getting to work with and know so many of those who served with me.
4. for the love of my wife and sons.
5. for my daily and eternal salvation through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I am thankful for the ability to wake up with my family, have a job I love doing, and being a part of something bigger than myself. Yesterday is gone, today is here and tomorrow is not guaranteed.

So thankful for all of the friends I made in the military and how often we all still talk. So thankful I beat pancreatic cancer so far. So blessed at my age to still have both parents alive. So thankful to have my little slice of Heaven on Earth, The Farm. So thankful all of my horses are healthy. So thankful to have married my childhood sweetheart 43 years ago. So thankful I can always get real Cuban cigars. So thankful I discovered Rally Point.

SGT Rick Ash you have that same spirit that my little Hitomi has. No matter how much gets heaped upon you, somehow your plate is never completely full. Hitomi's cancer is also in check at the moment and she too is very grateful. I thank God for strong, grateful, and humble people like you. It is good for my soul and very heart warming. Godbless you, my brother in arms.

Wholly Cow... that has to be the largest name tagging list i've ever seen on here yet. Nice job. :) Not sure how many points you got for doing it but ... WOW just WOW. lol Ok now for a comment on the actual post.
Armed Forces day...hmmm... I thank as many current service members as I possibly can and try to go about my normal day with a mind of being cognizant of the day being Armed forces day. It's not as much of a thing to me as Veterans Day or Memorial Day. To be frank it's not a federal holiday and doesn't have as much significance to non-veterans as it would to us. I don't dismiss it but I don't actually go out and Celebrate it with vigor either.
That Being Said, I do want to take the time to thank Everyone here for their Service ahead of time because I will be working on Armed Forces day... I take great pride in my status as Veteran and I mean it from the bottom of my heart and with all seriousness. You all are going to be future Veterans one day and We are the Ones civilians look to for how they treat veterans... Hold the line and don't let them forget those who went before or come after.

I am thankful for those who paved the way for the rest of us and set such a stellar example that we have a culture of challenge and success. This precedent permits us to really push beyond the culture that has become more pervasive in American society and maintain a standard of honor and dignity.
I am thankful for a diverse organization where performance and character have more influence than demographic factors.
I am thankful for the constant challenges which associate themselves with this lifestyle. There is always a new way to be challenged and a new way to grow.
I am thankful for the association of brothers and sisters, past-present-future, that come from being a part of the warrior class. We band together and will fight for those we have never met, just because they had the same drive to honor that we did. We can go anywhere, know no one, and find someone that we can bond with over our service.
I am thankful for supportive families who are truly a force multiplier.
I am thankful that we have members who are brave enough to do what is right in the face of adversity.
Lastly, I am thankful for the variety and breadth that our careers can have. This helps keep great talent longer since the monotony is partially removed.
I am thankful for a diverse organization where performance and character have more influence than demographic factors.

Thanks! LTC Stephen F. I am thankful that I live in the greatest nation on God's green earth, that I had the opportunity to serve the Army for 33 years, and that I continue to serve. I am thankful for my health, and most of all I thankful for my family, and my friends too.

Why are so many non vets employed at the VA? I have been fighting the VA for 2 & 1/2 years for Disability Compensation. I am fighting pancreatic cancer and afraid I am going to run out of time. My SVC OFC has screamed at me on the phone and told me my last email was irrelevant. When they removed over half my pancreas I was instantly, clinically diabetic and 6 months of 24/7 chemo left me with no feelings in either hands or feet. Letters from my PCP and my Oncologist got me SSDI W/I 2 months. What do you do at the VA if you don't mind me asking? But, back on topic, I have so much for which I am thankful. You can see that post above.

Hi Rick - the most effective course for you is to contact your most responsive US Senator and ask for direct intercession. You can also call a local television investigation team to see if they can help - do you have any kids under the age of 18?

I did that less than an hour ago. My two Senators are Rand Paul and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. I gave Mitch my SVC Officer email/phone number and a brief overview. I caught him at his desk eating lunch and his admin punched me right through! He said he would call AND mail today.

I am thankful to be part the very small fragement of the American population that serves this country and does the most for our values and ideals as a whole.
I am thankful for all those that serve proudly with me and have served before me.
I am thankful for those that will follow behind me once my time to stand down has come - those that will tap my shoulder and tell me that they are here to assume my watch.
I am thankful to the men and women in uniform that don't get recognized for the value and contribution to our joint effort because they don't have the high profile jobs. The cooks that are up earlier before me to fix a hot meal before I go to the field; the admin clerk that ensures that my pay and benifits are right so I don't have to worry about my wife struggling while I am away. I am thankful the the guy at supply that ensured I had the proper fitting gear and boots.
I am especially thankful to the service organizations and Veterans that stand with us. For the USO's at far flung locations and for the families and groups at home supporting us a world away.
I am thankful for all those that serve proudly with me and have served before me.
I am thankful for those that will follow behind me once my time to stand down has come - those that will tap my shoulder and tell me that they are here to assume my watch.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to be able serve in the US Army and serve this great Nation that allowed me to be its citizen, the vast knowledge I received throughout my career, I’m also thankful for meeting many awesome people and making lifelong friends, and last but not least for the chance to visit dozens of foreign countries.
