I've learned that PEOPLE and DUTY POSITIONS make duty stations great or horrible. That was totally the case with me in Fort Wainwright (Fairbanks) Alaska and Camp Hovey/Casey (Dongducheon) South Korea. Had I been anyone else BUT ME, I'd have probably had the time of my life...except that PEOPLE got in the way of that. Both of those tours were horrible for me. I know someone is probably going to read this and say something along the line of, "Are you CRAZY?!? I'd had the time of my f---ing life there!!!" Well, you probably didn't have to put up with the same bullshit I had to deal with at those two places. So no offense, but you can keep that bullshit. It ain't for me.

Back in the early '70s, when I first came back from Vietnam, I went to Fort Hood. Hated every minute I was there. . . .

I liked traveling, but my MOS, army boats, has about 80% of its people in Fort Eustis, VA. Another 10% go to Panama, and the rest go to Hawaii. One of the few MOS s where one can buy a home.

I have to agree with most others, it is what you make of it. Being around for awhile and being a Mustang, i did see many places as an Officer and an Enlisted Soldier. I will say that Ft Carson was one of my favorites. Now, as an Enlisted Soldier i disliked Ft Jackson tremendously, but as an Officer i loved it.

All were good no complaints listed here. I enlisted so I went where I was assigned.
I can tell you one thing I loved Fort Bragg putting my knees in the Breeze and popping silk. "Airborne"
I also Air Assaulted at Fort Campbell. "Air Assault"

All Army base have good and bad. It depends on what you prioritize as most important to you. In 34 years I’ve been stationed to Benning, Bragg, Devens, Eutis, Polk, McCellan, Ben Harrison, Knox, Hood, Carson, Bliss, White Sands, Yuma Proving Grounds, Lewis, Ord and Irwin. All of them had things I enjoyed but also sucked too. Remember in the Army “...if it doesn’t suck then you’re not training right”. If you want a truly nice base to live on then join the Air Force
